Shurik's house, the courtyard, and the surrounding shops were filmed in Moscow. As for the role of the Gagra resort, Yalta played it — there is even a monument to Mikhail Pugovkin at the filming location, but while in the film he sat with his back to the embankment, the monument is turned 180 degrees.
