The film was shot in the Czech Republic, mainly in Prague. This country is often chosen when it is necessary to show medieval Europe, as there are many preserved buildings from that era, as well as very attractive benefits and subsidies for film production. Therefore, locations around Prague are used for filming any other locations from Europe.

In the Movie

The scene where Van Helsing and Carl arrive in the city and walk across the town square. The residents greet them very unfriendly; they do not trust strangers. Their leader Anna comes out of the crowd and starts a conversation with the travelers, but at that moment vampires attack the residents.

In Reality

The scene was filmed in the square of Kunratice Castle, which is located in the southern part of Prague. It was built in 1688. However, not the entire square was used for filming, only a small part of the main building with the clock.
