The film was shot in Moscow, with principal photography taking place at the church ensemble in the village of Vasilyevskoye, Ivanovo Oblast. It is there that three churches — the Georgian, Spasskaya, and Troitskaya — are located, forming the appearance of the monastery in the film.

The scene was shot on the grounds of the ensemble of churches of the Trinity (1768), St. Nicholas the Wonderworker (1850), and the Georgian Icon of the Mother of God (1768). These three buildings stand in one place, forming an entire complex that played the role of the monastery in the film.
