Although the film's action takes place entirely in Moscow, it was not filmed only there, although there are many locations in the capital as well. For example, the filmmakers managed to obtain permission to shoot in the Kremlin, including the Grand Kremlin Palace, so the final scenes were filmed not in sets but in the real St. George's Hall. However, many street scenes had to be filmed in Tver, where they found a large number of streets resembling Moscow in the 1860s, untouched by modern civilization.

The scene where Fandorin goes to meet Grand Duke Semyon Alexandrovich, who informs him of his appointment as Moscow Chief of Police, signed by the Emperor, replacing Pozharsky. But Fandorin refuses the position, and in a rather rude manner.

In Reality

The scene was filmed in the real St. George's Hall of the Kremlin Palace, which corresponds to the historical period, i.e., it had already been built for 40 years. Currently, this hall is used as an official ceremonial venue for the President of Russia to receive foreign delegations.
