The filming of the movie «The Amphibian Man» took place on the territory of the USSR, in Crimea and Baku (the capital of Azerbaijan), like many other Soviet films whose actions unfolded outside the Union. The filming took place there for another reason: the water in Laspi Bay was surprisingly clear and suitable for underwater filming. However, initially the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea were considered for the role of the Caribbean Sea. The water of the Caspian turned out to be too murky, the Black Sea had problems with water color and underwater life, while in Crimea the transparency, though not ideal, was still much higher.
