Almost the entire film was shot in St. Petersburg in real houses, streets, and beaches. It was important for the director to film in real apartments to convey the spirit of the 80s and the atmosphere that surrounded and existed within the underground music scene.

The scene where Mike Naumenko draws a poster for an album in his communal apartment. Natasha is nearby, cradling a baby. She notices a record by the band "Blondie" on Mike's table and asks him to tell her about them. The hero says it's new wave, and Natasha recalls a conversation with Vitya about new wave.

In reality

The scene was filmed in a house on Kirochnaya Street in St. Petersburg. The real location where the Naumenko family lived at 18 Borovaya Street did not suit the filmmakers, so another apartment was chosen, which had been on the market for many years. Its high ceilings, stucco molding, and carved parquet appealed to the film crew, and they began to supplement the interior with important details of the era.

The roof above Bob's apartment

In the movie

The scene where Mike comes to his friend Bob with a request to produce Vitya's album. They listen to the recording and go up to the roof. The characters talk, drink, smoke, laugh, and in the background the song "My Mood" performed by Viktor plays.

In reality

The scene was filmed on the roof of the V. P. Kondratiev apartment building in St. Petersburg. This eight-story building towers over the surrounding structures. That is why its roof offers a favorable view of the city. In the scene, Mike is tormented by moral dilemmas; he is both with a friend and somewhere far away, his thoughts hovering over the city like birds. Therefore, it was important to show this scene on the roof of a high-rise.

On the shore of the Gulf

In the movie

The scene where Lyonya takes Vitya to meet Mike and show his songs. They arrive at the coast, where a large company of music lovers has already gathered. Mike plays guitar and sings, girls dance nearby, someone takes photos, someone eats — the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly.

In reality

The scene was filmed on the shore of the Gulf of Finland near the town of Sestroretsk. The town is famous for its natural beauty and wide beaches. It was extremely successful to film the scene of Viktor Tsoi and Mike Naumenko's meeting here, in the atmosphere of a relaxed beach holiday.
