Stanislav Svetlov, a native of Rybinsk, shot his diploma film «Tiger Among Birches» in his hometown. This place holds special significance for the author. The director often presents Rybinsk as a potential location for his new stories. The wonderful short film «Tiger Among Birches» tells the story of an unexpected love that disrupts the usual way of life of a provincial tailor. Faced with a new feeling, the main character strives to change his destiny. The film became the winner of the VGIK International Student Film Festival.

Pier

In the Film

The scene where in search of a rare fabric for sewing a dress, the main character decides on a desperate step. Fate leads him to the pier where ships are moored. It is here, on one of the tankers standing for wintering, that he meets a man ready to sell him the scarce material that could not be found in ordinary stores.

In Reality

The scene was filmed at the Perebory Pier in Rybinsk. This is an impressive location on the banks of the Volga, where majestic ships create an atmosphere of industrial power. Huge tankers and cargo barges, standing at the pier or wintering, dominate the landscape, emphasizing the scale and significance of this place. Metal structures, cranes, and industrial sites organically combine with the wide expanse of the river, creating a contrast between harsh industry and natural beauty.

Residential Area

In the Film

The scene where a small but expressive shot is captured: a snowy city with an island of slender birches. The main character of the film returns home from work, making his way through a residential area of Rybinsk, where tall trees create a special atmosphere of winter coziness.

In Reality

The scene was filmed on Mira Avenue in Rybinsk. The avenue is a classic example of a residential area dominated by panel high-rises characteristic of Soviet architecture. Long rows of residential buildings, identical in style, line the wide street surrounded by green areas. The courtyards are immersed in trees, among which tall birches and lindens stand out. Here you can see playgrounds with swings and sandboxes, old benches, and parked cars along the sidewalks.

Embankment

In the Film

The scene where a fisherman walks under snowfall with his catch. The man is dressed simply – felt boots, a sheepskin coat, a ushanka hat. In his hands hang two fairly large fish, already lifeless, meaning the catch was successful. Perhaps he ended the fishing due to heavy precipitation.

In Reality

The scene was filmed in the very center of Rybinsk, between the Volzhsky Bridge and the Historical Museum. Opposite the Transfiguration Cathedral, on the Volzhskaya Embankment, one of the most beautiful winter shots of the film was taken. The role of the fisherman was played by the director's father, Eduard Svetlov.
