Filming took place in the summer of 1974 in Yaroslavl. In one of the first scenes, viewers see the reflection of the Church of Elijah the Prophet in a puddle on Sovetskaya (formerly Ilyinskaya) Square. The scene where Afonya, pretending to be lame, gets on a crowded bus was filmed on Volkov Square. The housing office where Afonya worked was located near the hero's house — in the basement of building No. 63 on Leningradsky Prospekt. In the same area (Elena Kolesova Street, 50) was the cafe «Assol», where the plasterer Kolya and Afonya met.

The scene where Afonya and Fedul rush to the bus to Bragino — the Northern residential area. They are in such a hurry that they first fall into a puddle. Then they run across the entire square and barely get on the bus.

In reality

The scene was filmed on Volkov Square in Yaroslavl. The frame shows historical buildings framing Sovetskaya Square. Afonya and Fedul first fall into a puddle on Sovetskaya Square, then run across Volkov Square and get on a bus that, by the way, never ran there. At the end of this episode, Vlasyevsky Garden appears in the frame, where since 1973 there has been a monument to the famous actor Fyodor Volkov, the founder of the Yaroslavl Drama Theater.

The scene where Afonya came to get his salary with Fedul. Afonya never managed to get his salary; at the payment window they told him to come back later. Fedul barely stepped outside when from the other side the boss shouted at him to continue working and help unload a truck with bottles.

The scene was filmed Fedul works as a loader in a grocery store that was located opposite the cafe «Assol». The frame shows a store in building No. 50 on Uritskogo Street, which is located about 300 meters northwest of the pub.
