Based on Stephen King's novel of the same name, 'Misery' is a terrifying and unsettling look at insane fan culture. Since most of the scenes in 'Misery' take place in Annie Wilkes' house, much of the filming was done in a studio. However, for the outdoor snow scenes, the 'Misery' crew traveled through Nevada and Northern California to truly bring the sleepy town atmosphere to life. Throughout the film, we also see shots of New York, where Paul Sheldon normally lives and works, and where his agent begins to realize something is wrong.

Scene where Paul regains consciousness, an IV hangs over him, and Annie's image appears. Words swirl in Paul's head, then he clearly hears: 'I'll take care of you. I'm your number one fan.' This is where we first get an idea of where the film is headed and realize something is wrong.

In Reality

The scene was filmed at 'Hollywood Center Studios' in Los Angeles, California. This is a very famous and historic studio that opened in 1919 and where shows like 'I Love Lucy' and 'Beverly Hills' were filmed. It is now called 'Sunset Las Palmas Studios' and is still used as a film studio. It is located near Santa Monica Boulevard. Although entry to the studio without a pass is prohibited, you can sit in a coffee shop near the building and watch the stars come out.

The Agent's Office

Scene where People begin to notice that Paul is missing. The first to realize this is his literary agent, Marcia Sindall. She calls from her office to Sheriff Buster in Silver Creek to ask if he has seen or heard anything. We see Marcia talking on the phone in her New York office and saying, 'I think one of my clients, Paul Sheldon, might be in trouble.'

In Reality

The scene was filmed at the Seagram Building on Park Avenue in Manhattan, New York. Apparently, the building still houses active offices in the heart of Manhattan, surrounded by shops and eateries, so you can take a walk and easily check out this particular 'Misery' filming location.

The Road

Scene where During the investigation and thanks to some clues, Paul's overturned car is found on a snowy road leading out of town. Since there is no body and nothing around for miles, at first glance it seems the driver must have frozen to death in the wilderness.

In Reality

The scene was filmed at a section of road called Donner Pass in Placer County, California. This pass goes through the Sierra Nevada and is relatively close to the famous Pacific Crest Trail. The best way to see this location is to drive the road, but as you saw in the film, conditions can be unpredictable, so check the weather before you go.
