In the film «Election Day», the main character became a motor ship on board which most of the events unfold. The film played an important role not only in popularizing but also in promoting cruise vacations. After the film's release, interest in river cruises significantly increased, as well as in the three-deck motor ship «Sergei Abramov», which became a symbol of this story. Filming took place in the summer of 2006, in June and July, on the Upper Volga, in the Tver and Yaroslavl regions. Some scenes were filmed in Bely Gorodok, Uglich, Yaroslavl, and also on the territory of the Northern River Terminal in Moscow.
Filming Locations:
River Terminal
In the Movie

Scene where The river adventure begins. Our heroes find themselves in the same boat, pardon the pun, and set off on an election race for voters' votes. There is bustle on the ship, all campaign participants are gathering.
In Reality

The scene was filmed At the Northern River Terminal in Moscow — a small but incredibly picturesque structure located on the shore of the Khimki Reservoir. The terminal is a building in the Stalinist Empire style, built back in 1937. Its main facade is decorated with columns, arches, and stucco, and the central tower is crowned with a spire with a five-pointed star. The square in front of the terminal is designed as a spacious embankment, where you can see fountains, green areas, and alleys with a panoramic view of the reservoir and moored ships.
Pier
In the Movie

Scene where A Cossack detachment solemnly arrives at the pier where the motor ship «Sergei Abramov» is moored. At the head of the column is the ataman, he radiates determination and severity. He is accompanied by Cossacks dressed in national costumes and papakhas. Our heroes are clearly very worried about the arrival of such a detachment.
In Reality

The scene was filmed At the Central Pier of the city of Uglich. This is a picturesque spot on the banks of the Volga, ideal for filming, especially if you need to convey the atmosphere of a provincial Russian town with historical flavor. The pier is located not far from the city center, surrounded by natural landscapes, historical buildings, and churches, which creates a unique combination of architecture and natural beauty. The pier also offers a magnificent view of the Volga with its green banks.
Area near the Church
In the Movie

Scene where A helicopter lands with two dubious characters – Borya and Fedya. They try to convince (rather intimidate) the election campaign organizer, saying that the people already have a governor and many people fell during the previous elections.
In Reality

The scene was filmed At the Church of the Jerusalem Icon of the Mother of God in the Tver region. This is a unique place, combining historical and spiritual value with the picturesque nature surrounding the shrine. The church stands on the bank of the Volga River, making it accessible for viewing during cruises and river excursions.
