The Russian-American comedy in the spy film genre became the last project of the famous Soviet director Leonid Gaidai («The Diamond Arm», «Ivan Vasilievich Changes Profession»). The film's plot unfolds both in the USSR and the USA. Filming took place in Russia and the USA. Production began in 1991 in Moscow and Alabino near Moscow, and then continued in Crimea, in Feodosia. Later, the film crew went to the USA, where the main part of the film was shot. Filming took place on the streets of New York, in the famous Twin Towers, and at the casino entertainment complex «Taj Mahal» in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This facility, owned by Donald Trump, became one of the film's locations, and Donald Trump himself supported the Russian filmmakers and even appeared in the film's credits.
