The war ended, and Alexei Ivanov returns to his hometown to see his wife Lyuba and children, whom he hasn't seen for a long time. However, he is overwhelmed by anxious thoughts: what if his children have already forgotten him, and his wife has lost her feelings for him? After reuniting with his family, he realizes that getting used to peaceful life after the war will be very difficult. The film «Father», based on Andrei Platonov's story «The Return», was filmed in Rybinsk. In the scenes of the film, we can see the central districts of the city, the Rybinsk Merchant Pervov's House, and the Volga Embankment.

Scene where Masha returns to her hometown after the war. She has no one left except distant relatives. Fate brings Masha and the main character Alexei together on a train that takes them to their native lands. Stopping at the station, Alexei gets off with the girl and decides to walk her home.

In reality

The scene was filmed at the intersection of Radishchev and Sovetskaya streets in the city of Rybinsk. This is where the path from the station of the main characters of the film passed. In the background, we can see the historic Merchant Pervov's Estate. Although this house is located a bit away from the city center, it is known to many residents of Rybinsk due to its richly decorated facade, which stands out against the background of other buildings. Unfortunately, the architectural monument is in a deplorable state. The stucco is gradually crumbling, and the roof needs serious restoration. But it was this very condition that helped recreate the atmosphere of the post-war period. Every cloud has a silver lining!

Scene where On the way to Masha's house, the characters walk through the busy streets of the city. They talk, hold hands, and look completely at ease (especially the married Alexei). The hero passes by a small street market, distracted by the goods sold by elderly ladies.

In reality

The scene was filmed "At the intersection of Preobrazhensky Lane and Bulvarnaya Street. Eyewitness and photographer Vladimir Pinaev recalls: 'Since the filming location was near one of the Rybinsk branches of Sberbank, Alexei Guskov waited for the start of work inside the building on the first floor. The bank employees did not miss the opportunity and asked to take a photo with the actor, to which he kindly agreed.' "

Embankment

In the movie

Scene where Masha meets her friend Lida, which, naturally, she is incredibly happy about. The girls hug each other almost with tears in their eyes. Masha introduces Alexei as her husband (we watch and do not judge). Lida reveals a little secret of Masha – the girl added one year to her age so that she would be taken to the war.

In reality

The scene was filmed near house No. 11 on Volzhskaya Embankment in Rybinsk. This picturesque spot with a view of the Volga River became the filming location for the scene of the friends' meeting. The houses on the embankment are distinguished by their architectural expressiveness and historical value.
