In Pavel Lyubimov's social drama «School Waltz», Moscow reveals itself in all its charming beauty. The main characters, tenth-graders Zosya Knushevitskaya and Gosha Korablyov, experience their first strong feelings. They live in the picturesque surroundings of Chistye Prudy, and cozy Moscow streets such as Chaplygina and Zhukovskogo come to life on screen. Special attention is drawn to the former apartment building of the Gribov brothers, built in 1910–1912 according to the design of architect Gelrikh, located on Chaplygina Street. On vacation, the lovers go to the River Station, where they enjoy sunny days on the official city beach next to the «Soyuz» hotel at Levoberezhnaya Street, 12. This place still remains a favorite recreation spot for Muscovites.

The scene where we meet the main character, Gosha. He wants to become a representative of a very rare and, according to his girlfriend, dangerous profession - a volcanologist. She tries to talk him out of it, citing the death statistics of his future colleagues on volcanoes. However, Gosha objects, saying: «During an eruption, for the harmfulness, they give fresh milk.»

In Reality

The scene was filmed in the courtyard of house No. 5 on Zhukovskogo Street in Moscow. Located in the historical center of the city, it is surrounded by buildings with expressive architecture characteristic of this area. The house itself is a former apartment building, distinguished by elegant facades in the Art Nouveau style. According to the plot of the film, the families of the main characters belong to the wealthy stratum of society, so locations in the very heart of Moscow were chosen for filming.

The scene where it is a clear sunny day on the street, schoolgirls cheerfully walk in a row to the last bell. They are dressed in neat brown uniforms with white aprons, their hair beautifully styled for the holiday – everyone has prepared for the ceremonial event.

In Reality

The scene was filmed at Bolshoy Palashevsky Lane 14A. The girls confidently walk towards the school, which we even see in the frame – in Soviet times it was School No. 122, located at Maly Palashevsky Lane, 3. Now the school has changed its number but retained its function as an educational institution.

Beach

In the Movie

The scene where Zosya and Gosha, tired of the city bustle, decided to go on vacation to the city beach. At that moment, Zosya decides to tell Gosha that their life will soon change, as they will have a child. Gosha, upon hearing the news, did not feel joy. His face froze, and he pulled away, as if Zosya's words were something alien and absurd. He showed that he was not ready to share this event with her, did not want to be part of their future.

In Reality

The scene was filmed at the beach near the «Levoberezhny» park in Moscow. The beach is located next to residential buildings on Pribrezhny Proezd and is popular among local residents. Currently, the filming location houses an EMERCOM rescue station.
