The plot of the series forces the characters to travel across Europe, covering Estonia, Belarus, Germany, Spain, and more than a dozen other countries. But in reality, the filming crew only visited four countries: England, Croatia, Hungary, and Austria. Executive producer Gareth Neame said that he and the team filmed in London, Budapest, Vienna, and Zagreb. They did everything possible to make the locations resemble the parts of the world where the story unfolds.

High-rise balcony

In the movie

Scene where the killer, disguised as a cleaner, tries to escape the crime scene. He runs along the balcony of a high-rise building and throws smoke grenades down. As soon as the street fills with smoke, the hero throws a rope, secures it to the balcony railing, and quickly descends. The scene takes place in the first episode of the first season.

In reality

The scene was filmed in the city of Vienna. Although according to the plot, Eddie Redmayne's character is in Munich, the filming of the scene took place in the capital of Austria. The industrial part of Vienna perfectly suited the film crew to transform into a German city.

Killer's country family home

In the movie

Scene where Eddie Redmayne's character drives up to a country house. He enters the property and climbs the stairs to the pool. In front of him, a girl by the pool is collecting children's toys into a large basket. The girl notices the hero and happily runs over to hug him. The scene takes place in the first episode of the first season.

In reality

The scene was filmed in Croatia, in the resort town of Ičići. The family home in Spain, carefully hidden by the main character, where his wife and son live, was filmed on the Adriatic coast in Croatia. The area, located at the foot of the mountain slopes, is covered with dense subtropical vegetation. It strongly resembles the landscapes of Spain, which perfectly suited the film's production team.

Meeting place of Bianca and Sparrow

In the movie

Scene where Bianca goes to Belfast to talk to an informant codenamed Sparrow. They meet in a fabric store. The heroine tries to find out from the informant where the arms dealer Norman Stoke is. The scene takes place in the first episode of the first season.

In reality

The scene was filmed in London. For filming this scene, the production team set up in a sewing superstore on Balham High Street. The haberdashery opened in 1946 and is now the largest independent fabric store in London.
