The film was shot mainly in Crimea. The main filming locations were the outskirts of Alushta and the village of Luchistoye, where the Valley of Ghosts is located. Scenes were also filmed in the Nikitskaya Gorge near the village of Nikita, which was used for the mountaineering camp scene. Some episodes were shot on the Ai-Petri serpentine road and near the village of Kuibyshevo. The only scene filmed in the Caucasus was Shurik's rescue from a turbulent river, which was shot on the Mzymta River near Sochi. Additionally, a small part of the filming took place in Abkhazia, on the road to Lake Ritsa. In Crimea, locations such as the Yunost Hotel in Alushta and the Chaika boarding house were also used.

In the movie

The scene where Shurik, having decided to help Nina, goes to the prosecutor's office to report the kidnapping. However, he ends up at a celebration where he is welcomed as an honored guest and invited to the table. Underestimating his capacity, Shurik participates in the feast, where he is offered a lot of wine. He tries to refuse but ends up getting very drunk. After Shurik becomes heavily intoxicated, he is taken to a psychiatric hospital on Saakhov's orders, who wants to get rid of him as a witness to Nina's kidnapping.

In reality

The scene was filmed in Alushta, Crimea. The Kapitanaki house, where the celebration scene was filmed, is located here. It is an ordinary street with old houses, which added a provincial town atmosphere to the film. Alushta was chosen as the main filming location due to its proximity to the Yalta Film Studio and because the town was not well-known in the filmmaking community, allowing for a more authentic setting.

The asylum

The scene where Shurik, having decided to escape, uses his resourcefulness and intelligence to trick the orderlies. He pretends to be insane, which allows him to distract the guards. Seizing the moment, Shurik makes a dash for the high wall, but it proves an insurmountable obstacle. However, he notices a children's swing and asks other patients to help him swing over the wall. After jumping, he lands directly on a passing car, which turns out to be loaded with mattresses. Unfortunately, this car is heading back to the asylum, so Shurik quickly jumps off and starts running in the opposite direction along the high fence.

In reality

The scene was filmed on Voikova Street (now Karamanova). This location was chosen because of its suitable architecture and the high wall that was perfect for the escape scene. The wall of the May 1st cannery was used as the set for the psychiatric hospital. The tall white wall was an ideal backdrop for Shurik's escape scene.

The shashlik place

In the movie

The scene where Shurik arrives in the Caucasus. He is greeted with great hospitality, taken to various establishments, demonstrating traditional Caucasian cordiality. One of the highlights is a visit to a street shashlik place, where he is offered wine from a ram's horn. In this scene, Shurik and his companions toast to cybernetics, adding comedy and surprise to the traditional Caucasian setting.

In reality

The scene was filmed in Alushta, Crimea. The filming took place at the trolleybus loop. This location was chosen for its picturesqueness and the beautiful view of the mountains from there. Such a setting allowed creating the atmosphere of a hospitable and scenic town. Director Leonid Gaidai chose Alushta as the main filming location due to its accessibility and beauty. The Crimean nature and architecture were ideal for creating the atmosphere of the mountainous region described in the film.
