The plot of the series takes us to Lexington, Kentucky, then across America and subsequently to Paris and Moscow. But in reality, the filming took place in Berlin, and some additional scenes were shot in the Canadian city of Ontario. It's amazing how the production team created all those landscapes of American cities from the 60s using Berlin locations. The Canadian city of Cambridge also excellently portrayed some American locations in the project. The series team shot some scenes in Toronto. The magic of cinema is beautifully manifested in the scene where Beth and her adoptive mother arrive at a clothing store to transform the girl. The exterior of the store was the Winners department store in Toronto. And the interior was filmed in the Humana thrift store in Berlin.

Bridge Accident

Scene where a multitude of cars have gathered in front of the bridge. People and police officers are talking about something. It turns out a terrible accident has occurred on the bridge. Next to the wrecked cars lies a body covered with a bloodstained blanket. And a little further away stands a girl who survived the car accident. Scene from the first episode.

In Reality

The scene was filmed on the Hillside Bridge in the city of Scarborough, Canada. The bridge spans the Little Rouge Creek and is 25 meters long. It connects Rouge National Urban Park and the Hillside area of Toronto.

Methuen Home Orphanage for Girls

In the Movie

Scene where ten-year-old Elizabeth is brought to the Methuen Home orphanage for girls. The car pulls up to the main entrance of the building, and the head of the home, Helen Deardorff, comes out onto the porch. She warmly greets Elizabeth, takes her by the hand, and leads her through the open doors of the orphanage. Scene from the first episode.

In Reality

The scene was filmed at an estate called Schloss Schulzendorf, located on the outskirts of Berlin. The house was built in 1889 for Jewish businessman Moritz Israel. Subsequently, the building was seized by the Third Reich, and after German reunification, the house was returned to the descendants of the Israel family. The tower of this villa in the late 19th-century Renaissance style was altered in post-production to remove its resemblance to medieval European architecture.

Scene where Beth is picked up from the orphanage by her new parents. They drive up to the house where the heroine will now live. Getting out of the car, Beth looks around curiously. Her stepmother smiles at her and invites her into the house. Scene from the second episode.

In Reality

The scene was filmed in Cambridge, Ontario. The production team needed to depict a house and neighborhood from the Midwest and South. And they found such a building in the Canadian province of Ontario at 15 Brant Road South. This house is private property.
