The 2004 film, often called a «rom-zom-com» (romantic zombie comedy), combines an eccentric mix of romance, comedy, and horror. The protagonist, Shaun, played by Simon Pegg, is a downtrodden London salesman who finds himself in an unexpected zombie apocalypse. His life, once quiet and consisting of work, his relationship with his girlfriend, and his friendship with Ed, takes an exciting turn when the undead begin to fill their city. The comedy was primarily filmed in London, which added realism to the story. Shaun's apartment is located at 83 Nelson Road in Crouch End, North London. The film also frequently features the grocery store «Weston Park Food», which is near Shaun's apartment. The exterior scenes of the fictional pub «The Winchester» were filmed at the famous pub «The Duke of Albany» on Monson Road in New Cross, while the interiors were shot at «Ealing Studios».
Filming Locations:
Electronics Store
In the Movie

The scene where Shaun comes to work at an electronics store. That day, his boss is absent, and Shaun is left in charge. However, he is not highly respected among his colleagues: during a meeting, one employee talks on the phone, while the others look disdainfully at the ceiling.
In Reality

The scene was filmed at the real electronics store «Garland Electronics», located on High Road in London. This place is a well-known retail distributor of household appliances and other equipment. The store also offers a wide range of audio and video equipment. Known for its extensive selection and excellent service, «Garland Electronics» has established itself as a popular spot among locals.
Shaun and Ed's House
In the Movie

The scene where Shaun and Ed's neighbor, Pete, bursts into their house in the middle of the night, annoyed that the sounds of the DJ setup the guys turned on are keeping him from sleeping. While Shaun and Ed enjoy the rhythmic melodies, Pete clearly does not share their enthusiasm.
In Reality

The scene was filmed at a house on Nelson Road in the Crouch End area of North London. The area is characterized by a typical North London atmosphere: residential buildings with Victorian architecture, cozy shops, and local pubs. Crouch End is a fairly quiet yet active area with a rich history, which has become an important part of London's urban landscape. In the 1990s and 2000s, the area attracted both students and young professionals due to its location within the city zone and proximity to public transport.
Pub
In the Movie

The scene where the group of survivors, led by Shaun, seeks shelter and heads to the local pub, hoping to find refuge there. However, a horde of zombies relentlessly pursues the team, and someone must distract them. Of course, that role falls to Shaun himself. He makes loud noises, distracting the zombies and giving his friends the chance to sneak inside the empty pub.
In Reality

The scene was filmed at the pub «The Duke of Albany», located at 39 Monson Road in London. This is where some of the most tense and simultaneously comedic scenes of the film unfold, as Shaun and his friends try to take shelter from the zombie hordes. However, in real life, the pub «The Duke of Albany» is no longer operational. After filming, it was closed and subsequently converted into residential apartments. This is a fairly common fate for many historic London pubs, which lose popularity and over time are transformed into living spaces.
