An exciting adventure film directed by Karen Oganesyan, which transports the legendary epic heroes Ilya Muromets and Nightingale the Robber into the modern world. The idea for the film came to Oganesyan while watching the latest «Avengers», when he noticed how enthusiastically young audiences greeted the appearance of iconic superheroes. The director thought that Russian viewers should also have their own legendary defenders, and decided that Ilya Muromets and Nightingale the Robber are perfect for this role. The film was shot in Moscow, the Moscow region, and on the picturesque expanses of Lake Baikal.
Filming Locations:
Ice Cave
In the Movie

The scene where Professor Kiselyov embarks on a distant and dangerous expedition to the north. There, in the ice of an underwater cave, he discovers the body of Muromets. It was in this place that his last fight with the robber once took place.
In Reality

The scene was filmed on Lake Baikal — the largest and most beautiful freshwater lake in the world, located in southern Siberia. The water in the lake is crystal clear, with visibility reaching 40 m! You can work here at any time of year, getting radically different looks. In winter, the surface is covered with thick, transparent ice with characteristic cracks and bubbles, creating a unique texture for filming. In some places, hummocks form — ice piles that add drama to the frame. In summer, Baikal is endless water expanses with deep blue color, rocky shores, dense forests, and sandy bays, creating contrasting landscapes.
Robo Arena
In the Movie

The scene where thanks to Kiselyov's invention — the steel heart — Ilya Muromets comes back to life. However, the professor sacrifices his life for this. Now his sons, Maxim and Yegor, must not only stop the Nightingale but also restore Muromets' honor by fighting on the «Robo Arena» in battles of giant combat robots.
In Reality

The scene was filmed at Mosfilm — the largest film studio in Russia, located in Moscow. There, realistic robot fights were recreated, reminiscent of video game battles — without blood, but with spectacular flashes and sparks. «We use minimal computer graphics, only adding details on the robots. All hits, fights, and movements are real,» explains the director.
