Music term of the week — diminuendo.

Diminuendo — gradual decrease in sound volume. 

In sheet music, it is indicated by the sign «>» or abbreviated as dim. If the diminuendo needs to be performed over a long passage, its continuation is indicated by dots. 

The opposite of crescendo.
