The scene was filmed at Wingaersheek Beach - a 0.6-mile-long beach located on the Annisquam River in West Gloucester, Massachusetts. The name is a corruption of the earlier Dutch name Wyngaerts Hoeck. The beach was also called Coffins Beach after Peter Coffin, whose farm was located near this beach.
