The bridge was built between 1904 and 1908 by the Erie Railroad as part of the Graham Line and opened for operation in January 1909. The trestle spans the valley for 3,200 feet (975 m) and is 193 feet (59 m) high at its highest point. The Moodna Viaduct appears in the 2007 film "Michael Clayton."

The scene was filmed at Piermont - a village incorporated in 1847 in Rockland County, New York. The village's name, earlier known as Tappan Landing, was given by Dr. Eleazar Lord, a writer, educator, deacon of the First Protestant Dutch Church, and first president of the Erie Railroad. It was derived by combining a local natural feature - Tallman Mountain - and the village's most prominent man-made feature - the long pier of the Erie Railroad.

The scene was filmed at Sparky's Diner in Garnerville has been in business for four decades. In 2019, Sparky's owner Jeannie Nicolakis received the Empire Award - New York State's highest award for small businesses. The award was presented on Friday by State Senator James Skoufis. The diner was also used for filming the movie "Ben Is Back" starring Julia Roberts and Lucas Hedges.
