The scene was filmed at Dunamase Rock - a rocky outcrop in the town of Park or Dunamase in County Laois. On the rock, rising 46 meters (151 feet) above the flat plain, are the ruins of Dunamase Castle, a defensive fortress from the early Hiberno-Norman period, offering views of the Slieve Bloom Mountains. It is located near the N80 road between Portlaoise and Stradbally. Ballycarbery Castle shown in the film "Leap Year" is actually a combination of Dunamase Rock and CGI.
