The scene was filmed at The New York State Supreme Court Building was originally known as the New York County Courthouse. The building was designed by Boston architect Guy Lowell in the Classical Roman style. It was built between 1913 and 1927. Its completion was delayed due to World War I. It replaced the former New York County Courthouse on Chambers Street. The rotunda is 200 feet (61 m) in circumference and rises 75 feet (23 m) to a dome 30 feet (9.1 m) high and 20 feet (6.1 m) long. The rotunda contains ten stained glass windows and choir lofts. The most striking feature of the rotunda is a circular fresco called "Law Through the Ages." It is also called "The History of Law." This fresco was designed by Italian artist Attilio Pusterla and painted by him and a group of artists working under his direction in 1934-1936.

The scene was filmed at This was one of the oldest continuously operating jazz clubs in Harlem, specializing in jazz and blues. In the 1930s it was known as Poosepahtuck. In the 1940s it was known as Lucky's Rendezvous and was owned by Lucky Roberts. Lucky was a teacher and mentor to Duke Ellington and George Gershwin. In December 2011, St. Nick's Pub closed due to a lack of an updated liquor license. On March 22, 2018, St. Nick's Pub was damaged by a fire. At the time, the pub was being used for filming of "Motherless Brooklyn." In a tragic accident, firefighter Michael R. Davidson died as a result of the fire.

The park is an open space dominated by the Washington Square Arch at the northern gateway to the park.

The scene was filmed at The Asser Levy Public Baths, now part of the Asser Levy Recreation Center, is a historic building located at the corner of Asser Levy Place and East 23rd Street in Kips Bay, Manhattan, New York City. It was named after Asser Levy, one of the first Jewish citizens of New York, a strong and influential advocate for civil liberties; it was built in 1904-06 and designed by Arnold W. Brunner and Martin Eiken of the firm Brunner & Eiken.
