It was named after Olav Selvaag (1912-2002), who was a civil engineer and building contractor and was of great importance for the development of housing in Oslo in the post-war period. On the site stands a sculpture with his portrait bust in full figure.

The scene was filmed at The Oslo Opera House is the home of the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, and the national opera theatre of Norway. The opera house was built after long national debates. A design competition was held, and from 350 entries, the judges selected the design of the Norwegian architectural firm Snøhetta. Construction began in 2003 and was completed in 2007, ahead of schedule and $52 million under budget of $760 million. The grand opening on April 12, 2008, was attended by His Majesty King Harald of Denmark and Queen Margrethe II. The roof of the building slopes down to ground level, creating a large plaza that invites pedestrians to climb up and enjoy the panoramic view of Oslo.

It was founded by William Ewart Gladstone in 1882 to provide facilities for members of the Liberal Party. The club was designed by the architect Alfred Waterhouse. He is best known for the design of the Natural History Museum in London. The National Liberal Club has an elegant style. Waterhouse included Italianate and French Renaissance elements in his design. The room in which Tenet was filmed was named in honor of Lady Violet Bonham Carter and celebrates the achievements of liberal women. Violet Bonham Carter (1887-1969) was a British politician and journalist. She was the grandmother of actress Helena Bonham Carter.
