The scene was filmed at Cape Forchu Lighthouse in Cape Forchu, Nova Scotia. The lighthouse is 11 km from Yarmouth. The lighthouse was built in 1839 and began operation in 1840. The original station was demolished in 1961 and replaced in 1962 with an "apple core" concrete tower. Since 2000, the original Fresnel lens used in the lighthouse has been housed at the Yarmouth County Museum. The 19-acre grounds where the lighthouse stands are open to visitors from May to September. The keeper's house is a heritage property open during this time, containing information about the history of the lighthouse and its inhabitants. Guided tours are also available. Production designer Craig Lathrop and his team built a 70-foot lighthouse tower, the keeper's quarters, a long breezeway connecting them, and several outbuildings on the peninsula, Lathrop told Architecture + Design.
