The scene was filmed at The Macdonald Randolph Hotel ("The Randolph") - a hotel in Oxford, England. Construction began in 1864 to a design by William Wilkinson, an architect who also designed many houses in North Oxford. The hotel was named not after Lord Randolph Churchill, who was associated with Blenheim Palace to the north of Oxford, but after Dr. Francis Randolph, an 18th-century university benefactor. The hotel has appeared several times in the television series "Inspector Morse".

The scene was filmed at Symonds Yat Rock offers a view of the picturesque gorge through which the River Wye flows. From this rock, you can observe birds of prey: a pair of peregrine falcons nest annually within sight of the rock. Archaeologists have discovered bones of hyenas, saber-toothed cats, and mammoths in the caves of the valley and its surroundings, and finds of tools and clothing show that humans lived here 12,000 years ago.
