The hotel is operated by Starwood Hotels and Resorts and sold under the W Hotels brand. The five-star hotel consists of 473 rooms, 67 suites, 400 employees, and a rooftop bar. In the film, the hotel entrance is used as an office building.

Originally, the site was a Capuchin monastery of Santa Madrona, which was demolished in 1835. Plaça Reial was designed by Francesc Daniel Molina i Casamajó later in the 19th century. The square is twinned with the Plaza Garibaldi in Mexico City. The lampposts of these squares were designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí.
