In Reality

The scene was filmed at Allentown State Hospital was planned as early as 1901, but its opening was delayed until October 3, 1913. The population peaked in 1950 with 2,012 patients. Due to a sharp decline in the need for psychiatric hospitals, the hospital was closed on December 17, 2010. The Pennsylvania Department of General Services issued a tender for the demolition of all buildings on the hospital grounds (including the historic main building) by the end of 2019. CGI technology was used to create the city background.
