Many NASCAR fans and drivers have nicknamed it "The Lady in Black" and "The Track Too Tough to Tame," and it is advertised as "NASCAR Tradition." It has a unique, somewhat egg-shaped form—an oval with ends of different configurations, which supposedly arose due to the proximity of one end of the track to a minnow pond that the owner refused to move. In this situation, it is very difficult for crews to adjust the handling of their cars to be effective at both ends.
