The scene was filmed at The Barrister Place Hotel was known as the Jefferson Hotel when it opened to great acclaim on July 15, 1915. At that time, it was the tallest building in Arizona. In 2014, the building was sold to a company that planned to convert it into apartments and retail spaces. In Phoenix, December 11 is unofficially celebrated as "Psycho Day" because Alfred Hitchcock used the city in the opening sequence of his masterpiece "Psycho." December 11 is the date that appears in the opening scene. Hitchcock was not present in Phoenix during the filming of the opening scene, as he was working on the production in Los Angeles.
