Another topic you don't want to think about when planning a vacation. But, from experience, I know it's better to know these nuances in advance.

The first thing I always recommend to tourists and do myself is getting insurance. At least the minimum, which is usually included in a package tour.
For pregnant women, children, and the elderly, I recommend getting extended coverage.
Also, standard insurance does not cover exacerbations of chronic diseases, sunburns, or injuries sustained while under the influence of alcohol, in water, or during sports.

My husband and I took out insurance even when we ended up in Baku for 4 days (we were flying to Dubai, but the plane turned around) — we did it right at the airport as soon as we decided to stay and not wait for flights to the UAE to resume.

So, we've sorted out the need for insurance. What's next:

1️⃣ Make a photocopy of your health insurance policy and carry it with you on vacation so you can quickly contact the insurance company if needed.

2️⃣ If medical assistance is required, be sure to call the number listed on your insurance policy immediately. The operator should tell you which clinic to go to. If you go on your own without calling, the insurance company will refuse to pay for treatment costs.

3️⃣ Contact the travel agent with whom you booked the tour; they will advise you on how to proceed correctly.

4️⃣ IMPORTANT: Usually, the insurance company pays for treatment directly to the clinic, but sometimes hospitals require the patient to pay the bills. Clarify this with your insurance company and collect ALL receipts and invoices — for procedures, medications, phone calls, etc. — for full reimbursement of expenses incurred.

REMEMBER: a day spent in a clinic abroad can cost more than staying in a luxury hotel, and a simple surgery can cost almost as much as the entire trip.

May your travels be stress-free🏖️
