Oil workers are already using Claude in tNavigator 🧑💻
Posts about controlling tNavigator with Claude are increasingly appearing online. Vasily Shelkov, CEO of Rock Flow Dynamics (the makers of tNavigator), regularly reposts them.
➡️And every time the question arises: why isn't such integration already in the program itself?
🔡The mystery:
RFD has all the documentation, the API, and a ready product. Adding an AI agent via API or creating a plugin for Claude is a clear and solvable task. They have more resources for this than anyone else on the market. Yet the most striking cases are being done by third-party enthusiasts, not the company itself.
🔡We had a similar idea, and a long time ago
Even before these videos appeared, we were thinking about a plugin for tNavigator and CMG directly inside the AVP AI platform. The logic is simple: if the simulator is on your device, AVP AI collects the model data file — wells, grid, properties — sends it to the program for calculation, and then retrieves the results.
🔡What's important to understand
tNavigator's main competitor, Petrel, has a trump card: it belongs to SLB. And SLB has already built end-to-end AI across its entire product line. That means Petrel gets powerful AI functionality simply through the resources of its parent company — a separate team can't catch up with that. Perhaps that's why RFD isn't jumping into the same race directly: judging by their posts, they are more focused on the Asian market and are betting not on AI, but on license price.
AI is being implemented everywhere, and there's no escaping it. The only thing left is to learn how to use it effectively. Or even simpler — come to those who have already built a unified platform for your tasks ⚫️
