I wanted to start a discussion. After the release of Switch 2, does it make sense to buy/keep the original OLED model, or is it hopelessly outdated?
Arguments in favor of OLED:
- Price drop after Switch 2 launch — it's not like the console's price plummeted, but it has become a couple of thousand rubles cheaper, especially on marketplaces, and compared to the Switch 2 you can save around 15,000 rubles;
- Game library — if you're mainly interested in older Switch titles and indie games, rather than AAA new releases on day one, it seems quite logical to go for the OLED;
- Battery life and screen quality compared to Switch 2 in handheld mode (the Switch 2 has an LCD screen that is inferior to OLED in many aspects, including color reproduction);
- Ergonomics — it's a matter of personal preference, but many people prefer the size and feel of the OLED version in their hands.
Arguments in favor of Switch 2:
- More powerful hardware (no explanation needed);
- All new releases are prioritized for the Switch 2 (both exclusives like Donkey Kong Bananza or The Duskbloods, and ports – hello, Elden Ring!);
- New games launch simultaneously with other platforms (as was the case with Resident Evil Requiem, for example);
- Backward compatibility — you can play all original Switch games on Switch 2, and in most cases with improved quality;
- New Joy-Cons with magnetic attachment and the ability to use them as a "mouse" (maybe important for some).
I myself still have an OLED and am generally satisfied. But at the same time, I can already imagine heading to the Lands Between on a handheld or returning to Hyrule in Full HD. So I think by the end of the year, with the release of several cool new titles that won't be available on the original Switch, I'll need to switch to the Switch 2.
For those who have both consoles, or who recently bought a Switch 2 — was it the right decision?
I'd love to hear any opinions, especially from those who primarily use the console in handheld mode rather than connecting it to a TV.
