After three years of incredibly intense expansion of the cinematic universe — including 10 feature films, 12 seasons of TV series, and two television specials — Marvel Studios has finally decided to slow down a bit. However, the word 'a bit' is key here. While 2024 was relatively quiet with two series ('Echo' and 'Agatha All Along'), a couple of animated projects ('X-Men '97' and the third season of 'What If...?') and one film (), 2025 is a feast for superhero genre fans.
Disney CEO Bob Iger publicly stated that Marvel will release no more than three feature films and two series per year, but 2025 will be an exception. This year features three major theatrical releases and as many as five series on Disney+, including the long-awaited return of Daredevil and the debut of the Fantastic Four in the MCU.
2025 gains particular significance as it serves as a bridge between the concluding Phase 5 and the beginning of Phase 6 of the cinematic universe. This means many projects will directly pave the way for the culmination of the entire Multiverse Saga — the films 'Avengers: Doomsday' and 'Avengers: Secret Wars', scheduled for 2026 and 2027 respectively.

'Captain America: Brave New World'

The new Captain America has already been released, and it turned out to be questionable. Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) has fully embraced Steve Rogers' legacy, but he has to do it without the support of the Avengers, who disbanded after the events of 'Endgame'. The film by Julius Onah ('The Cloverfield Paradox') is a direct continuation of the series 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier', bringing back not only Sam but also Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly) — the first Black super-soldier, who once warned Wilson that America would never accept a Black Captain America.
The film's plot revolves around political intrigue as Thaddeus Ross (now played by Harrison Ford, replacing the late William Hurt) becomes President of the United States. Ross takes the Oval Office and also transforms into the Red Hulk — one of the most powerful beings in the cinematic universe.
But the main villain is the Leader (Tim Blake Nelson), a character whose story began back in 'The Incredible Hulk' (2008). Back then, Samuel Sterns was forced to use Bruce Banner's blood samples (then played by Edward Norton) to turn Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth) into the Abomination. As a result of an accident, Hulk's blood entered an open wound on Sterns' skull, transforming him into a supervillain with a hypertrophied brain. Seventeen years later, we finally learn what happened next.
Interestingly, the film also touches on the aftermath of 'Eternals', when a petrified Celestial was discovered in the Indian Ocean. As revealed at Comic-Con 2024, adamantium — the metal used in the comics to create Wolverine's skeleton — was found inside the cosmic being's body.
As for quality, 'Captain America: Brave New World' turned out to be very uneven, largely due to production difficulties and reshoots. Anthony Mackie, while proving he is worthy of carrying the shield, lacks the charisma of Chris Evans. Particularly 'impressive' is the final battle with the Red Hulk, which in scale and choreography should have been on par with the best moments of 'Civil War', but alas, came off as more comical than epic.
The post-credits scene directly connects the film to 'Thunderbolts*', showing Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) recruiting John Walker (Wyatt Russell) for a mission. However, the fate of Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp), who turned out to be the sinister Power Broker in the finale of 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier', remains a mystery.
'Thunderbolts*'

If you thought DC's 'Suicide Squad' was the only anti-hero team on screen, Marvel has prepared a worthy response. 'Thunderbolts' (with a mysterious asterisk in the title at the start of its release) became the culmination of Phase 5 of the MCU and brought together under one roof the most unremarkable ambiguous characters of the cinematic universe.
Director Jake Schreier ('Beef') and screenwriter Eric Pearson ('Black Widow') assembled an interesting cast: Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Valentina Allegra de Fontaine), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost), Wyatt Russell (John Walker), Olga Kurylenko (Taskmaster), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), and Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier).
The U.S. Congress is discussing the possibility of dismissing CIA Director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who has been involved in dubious scientific projects and secretly acquired Stark's famous Avengers Tower in New York. Trying to cover her tracks, Valentina sends all the mercenaries who worked for her — Yelena Belova, John Walker, Taskmaster, and Ghost — to one of her laboratories with orders to destroy each other. However, they decide not to fight but to unite, taking with them a young man named Bob (Lewis Pullman), who turned out to be a victim of mysterious medical experiments.
The asterisk in the title spawned many theories. Some thought it was a hint at the secret identity of one of the team members. But in reality, it turned out to be a marketing ploy — the Thunderbolts team becomes the new Avengers lineup (along with the Winter Soldier) by the end of the film. And in the promotional campaign, the original title was gradually replaced with 'The New Avengers'.
'Thunderbolts*' turned out to be an interesting experiment within the cinematic universe. It's not even about the grounded story, but about the main theme of the film. The heroes (or rather losers) here confront their inner demons, depression that literally consumes you from within. You don't expect to see that in a multi-million dollar blockbuster, but it's precisely such bold moves that are needed to save the MCU and give it new life.
'Thunderbolts*' has two post-credits scenes. The first is a comedic sketch with Red Guardian, who 'hints' to a random shopper in a supermarket that he is the one depicted on the cereal box. But the second carries much more meaning. It includes the heroes discussing what will happen to them now as Avengers, and the appearance of a spaceship with the recognizable symbol of the Fantastic Four, who will debut in the MCU this summer.
'The Fantastic Four: First Steps'

Finally! After many years of waiting and two unsuccessful attempts by Fox, Reed Richards and Co. officially join the cinematic universe. 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' will not only introduce us to a new version of the iconic heroes but also open Phase 6 of the MCU, beginning the final path to the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga.
The director's chair was taken by Matt Shakman, who previously delighted fans with his work on the series 'WandaVision'. The screenplay was written by Jeff Kaplan, Josh Friedman, Ian Springer, and Eric Pearson — a team tasked with capturing the spirit of the original comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
The cast caused restrained joy among fans: Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm / Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm / Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm / The Thing). The main intrigue of the film is whether Robert Downey Jr. will appear as Doctor Doom. Although only his involvement in 'Avengers: Doomsday' has been officially confirmed, it would be logical to introduce the main antagonist of the Fantastic Four in their debut film (at least in a post-credits scene). On the other hand, with Galactus and the Silver Surfer, the film might be overloaded with villains.
What is definitely worth expecting is a fresh take on the classic story. Judging by the title 'First Steps', the film will focus on the team's early adventures, perhaps even before they gained their superpowers. Given the retro aesthetic of the promotional materials, it can be assumed that the action will take place in the 1960s — the golden age of Fantastic Four comics.

'Daredevil: Born Again'

The return of Daredevil to the MCU has become one of the most anticipated events for fans. After three successful seasons on Netflix, which ended in 2018, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) briefly appeared in 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' and 'She-Hulk', and his arch-nemesis Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio) showed up in 'Hawkeye'. But only now has the Devil of Hell's Kitchen received his own full-fledged series within the MCU.
'Daredevil: Born Again' is neither a continuation nor a reboot; it's something in between. Brad Winderbaum from Marvel officially confirmed that the events of the original Netflix series are part of the 'sacred timeline' of the MCU, meaning all character backstories are preserved. At the same time, the new series does not require prior knowledge of previous seasons, making it an excellent entry point for new viewers.
The show's creation story was not easy. Initially, the showrunners were Matt Corman and Chris Ord, but they left the project mid-production, leading to a significant creative overhaul. They were replaced by Dario Scardapane, who previously worked on 'The Punisher', and most episodes were directed by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, known for 'Loki' and 'Moon Knight'.

Matt Murdock must balance his work as a lawyer and his nightly activities as Daredevil, trying to stop Kingpin through legal means by day and fists by night.
The first season of 'Daredevil: Born Again' turned out to be dark, gritty, and emotional — exactly what fans wanted. The fight scenes are good, though they fall short of the legendary hallway fight from the first season of the Netflix version. And a decent cliffhanger at the end of the season left viewers eagerly awaiting the continuation, filming of which has already begun.
'Ironheart'

After a bright debut in 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever', Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) gets her own series on Disney+. The young genius inventor, who created a suit rivaling Tony Stark's technology, must now find her place in the world of superheroes and technological innovation.
The series continues Riri's story after the events in Wakanda, when she returned to MIT and tries to balance her studies with superhero activities. In the comics, Williams used Stark's digitized consciousness as an AI, but in the MCU, where Tony is dead, she will have to rely solely on her own abilities and intellect.
The Ironheart suit, which we saw in 'Wakanda Forever', has received significant upgrades. It allows Riri to fly, shoot repulsor blasts, laser beams, missiles, and use many other high-tech gadgets. Essentially, Riri becomes the heir to Tony Stark's technological legacy, though she goes her own way.
In addition to Dominique Thorne, the series features Anthony Ramos as Parker Robbins, also known as the Hood — a supervillain whose abilities have mystical origins. This created an interesting contrast between Riri's scientific approach and the supernatural powers of her opponent.
Also appearing is Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who plays an actor trying to land the role of Wonder Man — a character who will later get his own series. This is an interesting meta-narrative, showing how superheroes become part of pop culture within the MCU itself.
'Ironheart' became an important link between the technological side of the MCU, represented by Iron Man and Black Panther, and its future, where a new generation of heroes takes on the legacy of the original Avengers.

'Eyes of Wakanda'

The Wakandan universe continues to expand with the animated series 'Eyes of Wakanda', which explores the rich history of the most technologically advanced nation in the MCU. The project is dedicated to the War Dogs — elite spies and scouts of Wakanda who have operated around the world for centuries, protecting their country's interests.
The series showed various historical periods in which Wakandan agents carried out missions, gathered information, and recovered stolen vibranium. This is an excellent way to expand the mythology of Black Panther and show how Wakanda's isolationist policy actually combined with secret influence on world events.
The series features appearances of familiar characters from the Black Panther films (for example, Iron Fist, but with a twist), including previous bearers of the mantle and members of the Jabari tribe.
'Marvel Zombies'
Release Date: September 24, 2025
After the successful 'What If...?' episode dedicated to a zombie apocalypse in the MCU, Marvel decided to develop this dark alternate reality into a full-fledged animated series. 'Marvel Zombies' reimagines the universe where a new generation of heroes fights against the ever-spreading undead.
Director and executive producer Bryan Andrews, who worked on 'What If...?', returns to show us an even darker and bloodier version of the familiar universe. The series received a TV-MA rating, allowing the creators to hold nothing back in depicting the horrors of the zombie apocalypse.
Among the zombified heroes will be Captain America, Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, Ghost, Abomination, Captain Marvel, and Okoye. Opposing them will be the survivors: Yelena Belova, Kate Bishop, Red Guardian, Jimmy Woo, Death Dealer, Shang-Chi, and Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel. This cast of characters promises a dynamic and emotional narrative where former allies become deadly enemies.
The series will be released on Disney+ at the end of September 2025. Although 'Marvel Zombies' is a spin-off of 'What If...?', it will have its own continuous story rather than an anthology format.
'Wonder Man'

Closing out Marvel's television lineup for 2025 is 'Wonder Man' — a series about Simon Williams, one of the oldest characters in Marvel comics, finally making his MCU debut. Starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who plays an actor trying to land the role of a superhero.
This meta-narrative is particularly interesting given that in the comics, Simon Williams was indeed an actor who used his superhero identity to advance his career in Hollywood. The series will likely be a satire of the entertainment industry and celebrity culture, showing what a superhero's life would look like in a world of social media and reality shows.
Wonder Man gained his abilities (superhuman strength, speed, longevity, and the ability to transform into ionic energy) from Baron Zemo, opening the possibility for the appearance of Daniel Brühl, who played this character in 'Captain America: Civil War' and 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier'.
It is also expected that the series will be connected to 'WandaVision', since in the comics Wonder Man had a complex relationship with Wanda Maximoff, and his brain patterns were used to create Vision, making them sort of 'brothers'.

'Spider-Man: Brand New Day'

'Avengers: Secret Wars'

The grand finale not only of Phase 6 but of the entire Multiverse Saga will be released at the end of 2027. 'Secret Wars' is an adaptation of one of the most massive crossovers in Marvel comics history, where heroes from different universes gather on Battleworld — a patchwork world created from fragments of destroyed realities.
