Formally, the DC universe reboot took place back in December 2024 with the release of the animated series 'Creature Commandos' under Gunn's leadership. But officially, the first major project will be the film 'Superman', where the famous geek director will try to tell the story of Clark Kent's youth from a new angle.
The role of humanity's main savior has passed from Henry Cavill to David Corenswet, and instead of Amy Adams, his beloved Lois Lane will be played by 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' Rachel Brosnahan. The role of one of the main villains, Lex Luthor, will be played by Nicholas Hoult, but judging by the trailer, Superman will have several opponents. Also in the debut film of the updated DC universe, we will see Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, Rick Flag Sr. (played by Frank Grillo, who voices this character in 'Creature Commandos'), Supergirl, and for the first time on the big screen, Krypto the Superdog. Pop culture enthusiasts have already given James Gunn a credit of trust thanks to the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' trilogy, which, unlike other Marvel films, did not descend into something sad. So we really want to believe that Gunn will meet expectations and be able to tell a truly great story about Superman.

The new project titled 'F1' from the director of 'Top Gun: Maverick', Joseph Kosinski, is a potential hit among summer blockbusters of 2025. And it's not just about the director. The lead roles are also filled with stars: Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon, Simone Ashley, etc. In the producer's chair is Jerry Bruckheimer himself, and the script was written by the author of 'Arlington Road' and 'Transformers', Ehren Kruger.
According to the plot, a retired Formula 1 driver (Pitt) returns to big-time sports at the request of his friend to become a mentor for a young driver. A similar story already happened in the film 'Driven' by Renny Harlin, where the role of the veteran was played by Sylvester Stallone. But 'F1', judging by the trailer, will be brighter, larger-scale, and deeper in details. The latter will be handled by one of the most authoritative racers in the world, Lewis Hamilton, and all this will be shot by Oscar-winning cinematographer Claudio Miranda. We are waiting for this and definitely watching.

In 2025, the premiere of the film adaptation of Eugene Vodolazkin's book 'The Aviator' is expected.
The aviator Innokenty Platonov is a student of aircraft designer Zhukovsky. Falsely accused of murdering informer Zaretsky, Platonov ends up in the Solovetsky camp, where in 1929 he becomes an involuntary participant in a cryonics experiment. Almost a century later, in 2023 (or 2025, as the filmmakers decide), the outstanding scientist Konstantin Geiger manages to thaw him out in a private laboratory near St. Petersburg.
We are in for an atypical and even slightly mystical city, philosophical reflections on life and death, as well as famous actors — Konstantin Khabensky and Alexander Gorbatov. The director is Egor Konchalovsky. This adaptation is definitely worth attention and we hope it will find its audience.
Mickey 17
Based on the 2022 novel 'Mickey7' by Edward Ashton, the film 'Mickey 17' by Bong Joon-ho tells the story of a space traveler named Mickey Barnes, who helps colonize the icy planet Niflheim. Every time a mission appears that is potentially too dangerous, the team sends Mickey. Because he is not a real human, but a clone, one of many identical to each other. If one Mickey dies, a new one is born, and most of his previous memories remain intact. However, two clones are forbidden to exist simultaneously, and as we all understand, this rule will be broken.
For the long-awaited (in every sense — the premiere has been postponed many times) film from one of the most talented directors of our time, shot in an atmosphere of strict secrecy, the plot of the book has been significantly altered. In particular, the universe has been expanded and the sharp social satire characteristic of Bong Joon-ho has been added. All this, combined with a high-concept science fiction setting and an impeccable cast (not just Robert Pattinson, but many Robert Pattinsons, Steven Yeun, Mark Ruffalo, Toni Collette, Naomi Ackie), intensifies the desire to embark on this space odyssey as soon as possible and makes this premiere one of the most important of the new year.
Avatar: Fire and Ash
Waiting for the next part of 'Avatar' is already a kind of ritual that every fan of the film must go through before the spectacular catharsis.
But this is a rare case where the long wait is justified, supported not by scary news about the hundredth reshoot, but by the feeling of approaching something, if not a masterpiece, then definitely high-quality. There can be no doubt about the meticulous work, because even part of the filming was carried out during work on the sequel, so that the young actors would not have time to grow noticeably.
And what, exactly, do we expect from the film? Naturally, the scope of James Cameron, large-scale shots, and the detailing of the world of Pandora. Plans to make a new version of Mary Shelley's gothic novel were conceived by Guillermo del Toro back in 2009, but the project fell under the wheels of Universal's failed 'Dark Universe' and was shelved. Second, the director and screenwriter was Osgood Perkins, whose 'Longlegs' became one of the main horror hits last year. Third, all this splendor was produced by James Wan, who gave us the 'Saw', 'Insidious', and 'The Conjuring' franchises.

Some consider 'Saw' to be terrible cinema, filled with excessive cruelty and torture (some even accuse the franchise of promoting violence), while others see in these films a philosophy that postulates the pursuit of truth and responsibility for one's actions. The camp of critics has a weighty argument: with each new part, the franchise increasingly moved into the category of torture porn, where the main thing was not the idea, but the attraction of torture. But fans continued to watch and believe, and producers continued to sponsor.
In 2021, 'Spiral: From the Book of Saw' was released, almost without mentions of John Kramer and with minimal violence, but with obvious criticism of racism, which caused a mixed reaction from the audience. Many considered this too sharp a departure from the canon and a harbinger of the franchise's decline. But in 2023, 'Saw X' was released, which brought back not only the main villain but also the original meaning of his vendetta (as well as the love of viewers). Soon the unexpected happens — the beast rises from the dead and starts slashing everyone around.
Sounds like nonsense, right? Yes, and that's a very good thing! A24 takes on the craziest ideas and turns them into bright and original films. 'Death of a Unicorn' is the directorial debut of Alex Scharfman (who is that?). The studio is no stranger to working with little-known creators. Who knows, maybe in a couple of years we will hear the name Scharfman as often as we now hear about Ari Aster or Ti West.
28 Years Later
Many have come to terms with the fact that we live in an 'era of sequels' and year after year (big cities grow) such lists consist mainly of continuations, prequels, and other offshoots. However, Danny Boyle's film can become a diamond even in such conditions. Although the non-necessity of a new part should not be ruled out either.
The zombie threequel '28 Years Later' was already a highly anticipated premiere, but after the release of the trailer, which featured a fake Cillian Murphy in the image of a gaunt infected person, the level of fan interest skyrocketed into the stratosphere. Besides, admit it, not every year does a post-apocalyptic blockbuster with a cult background come out. And the return of key figures involved in the creation of the first film is also quite enticing.
True, there remains one more question that keeps me from sleeping peacefully. Why did we jump from 'weeks' straight to 'years'? Did nothing interesting happen to the world in 28 months?!
