We recall which domestic TV series we watched in the outgoing year: from dramas about the wild 90s to an adaptation of Dostoevsky.

Traditionally, the series are listed by release date. No ratings, no rankings. If a series is already on this list, it can and even should be watched!

«Kesha Must Die» (KION, January 5, finale)

This year began with the finale of a quite decent and gripping psychological series «Kesha Must Die». You won't see action, chases, or fights here, but you will fully enjoy the development of events and the intricate web of intrigue.

«Charm» (PREMIER, January 18)

A star-studded cast where every actor is perfectly chosen: Yankovsky, Fedotov, Menshikov. Here, in the atmosphere of criminal Russia, you can see new interpretations of «The Count of Monte Cristo», «Romeo and Juliet», and other classic stories. The main thing to remember is that retribution will always find you, no matter who you are: the punisher or the punished.

«Golden Bottom» (IVI, January 18)

It's been a long time since we've had series about business on our screens. Here we observe the story of a family that has long had everything: money, fame, high privileges. But are they so easily obtained? And most importantly, for what purpose? To hold onto power or not to go mad from the world of big money? «Golden Bottom» fully provides answers to these questions.

«Prestige» (START, February 15)

A project that started as another simple comedy turns into a captivating detective story by the middle. And it's another look at the relationship between the rich and the poor, which our filmmakers love so much. In addition, there are sharp plot twists, unexpected revelations, and simply a beautiful life. It's no wonder the series is called «Prestige».

«I Know Who Killed You» (Wink, May 1)

The first project this year that made me think, «It will definitely be in the top of the best.» A subtle drama showing how life can collapse from one wrong action or deed. On one hand, you will almost hate the main characters, but on the other, you cannot help but feel sympathy for them.

«The Unfaithful» (Wink, March 7)

«The Unfaithful» is like a female version of the series «Trigger». If you want to understand how people can destroy each other just by being near, explore different methods of manipulation, and once again observe how mistakes in relationships can be corrected, then this project is for you.

«The Pure Ones» (Wink, June 24)

This is both the «Mistresses» of the 20th century and an original author's project by Nikolay Khomeriki. It bizarrely combines the tragic fates of enslaved heroines, Mark Eydelshtein, as if playing himself from..., dozens of sex scenes, and insanely beautiful interiors. But the project won't appeal to everyone, as for some it may seem too objectifying, while for others it may lack kitsch. However, Khomeriki's boldness cannot be denied.

Stole a Heart: How Sean Baker's 'Anora' Reimagines the Cinderella Story

On October 17, 'Anora', the winner of the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, reached big screens. Is the film worthy of the Palme d'Or, for whom does Sean Baker make films, and what half...

«The Route» (OKKO, September 5)

This series is already included in all possible ratings and is recognized as the best of 2024 (for example, according to Snob). We won't lag behind either, because it truly turned out to be a strong, complex, and emotional project, revealing the most secret and dark sides of the human soul. It could easily be called the Russian version of «True Detective», but we don't like such comparisons, and there are no hints of mysticism in it.

«Give Us a Show» (IVI, November 1)

The project that impressed me the most. The first episodes seemed like some unsuccessful mockery of important topics, attempts to flirt with the viewer. But somewhere around the third episode, the series truly captivates. It reveals the world of television, openly showing how to manipulate human consciousness. While watching, the viewer no longer distinguishes where the show is and where the plot is. It turns into a kind of puzzle where the viewer knows the truth but cannot, like the main characters, shout it out to others and tell about it.

«Crime and Punishment» (Kinopoisk, November 2)

How much news, events, and opinions there were about this series, about this new interpretation of the classic story. The audience split into two camps – those who were delighted and gave it all 10 points, and those who wanted to forget this project immediately after watching. Isn't that a reason to include the project in the list of the main ones of the outgoing year? Who knows, perhaps this experiment will become the first step towards fresh readings of classical literature.

«Children of Change» (Wink, November 21)

If you thought that the series «The Reckless» would definitely be in our top, you were wrong. It can rather be classified as one of the unfulfilled hopes of the year. But the series «Children of Change» fully succeeded in revealing the theme of the notorious 90s. Here, the authors presented the story of an entire country through the prism of one family's story. The main focus is on human relationships, but there are also shootouts. So I give the award for the best «reckless» to this project.

«Number One» (KION, November 30)

If you've missed series like «Unprincipled», here's an alternative. True, this time the story was worked on not by Alexander Tsypkin, but by another bohemian enthusiast Sergei Minaev. Sharp jokes from Evgeny Tsyganov, behind-the-scenes games from the life of high journalism, and an attempt to understand life – in short, a full bouquet for fans of this direction in our cinema.

«Prometheus» (Kinopoisk, December 5)

We watched the first episode back at the Moscow International Film Festival in spring of this year, and even then it became clear – this is a project worth following. A mystical detective story where nothing is clear (and that's good in this context), but you really want to figure it out. Conspiracies, mysticism, stylish color grading, and an excellent cast. It's a pity that we won't see the second half of the story about the mysterious plane disappearance until next year.

Bonus: «Cyberslav» (Kinopoisk, December 31)

A long-awaited series. A project that has been awaited for many years. And even just before the scheduled premiere, another delay occurred. But Slavic cyberpunk will be available on subscription on December 31. Well, as we meet the new year, so we will spend it. Why not in such a unique style for our cinema?
