Writing reporter Justin Kemp (Nicholas Hoult) lives an ordinary life: he is happily married to his wife Alison (Zoey Deutch) and will soon become a father. This joyful event is overshadowed by a jury summons for a murder case involving a young woman (Francesca Eastwood). The prosecution (Toni Collette) claims the crime was committed by the victim's boyfriend (Gabriel Basso), who had a loud argument with her at a bar that day, while the defense attorney (Chris Messina) tries every possible way to find justification for the defendant.

After reviewing the case details, Justin recalls that on that rainy night, he hit what he thought was a deer but couldn't find the animal's body, so he calmly went home. Now he faces a difficult moral choice: confess to what happened and receive a life sentence without parole, or remain silent about his actions, but then an innocent person will go to prison.

In his fortieth film, director Clint Eastwood skillfully constructs a subtle psychological drama wrapped in a trial. The filmmaker focuses on two very important themes: the fairness of justice and human interests. These issues are closely intertwined and influence each other. From the very beginning, the police are unwilling to look for other suspects and are eager to close this seemingly obvious case, while the jurors are in a hurry to deliver a guilty verdict so they can return to their daily lives. But the classic setup reminiscent of the film '12 Angry Men' immediately makes it clear that the discussion will not end so easily.

Not only does the protagonist have to tip the scales toward acquittal, but he also must avoid suspicion falling on himself. Justin cannot make a deal with his conscience, but he also cannot go to prison, leaving his wife to raise their child alone. Along with the main character, the viewer also faces a complex psychological dilemma, at least once during the plot putting themselves in his shoes. This is an excellent indicator that Eastwood has once again created a character whose fate you care about throughout the entire film.

A significant contribution to the image of a character you want to sympathize with was made by the lead actor Nicholas Hoult, who brilliantly displays a rich palette of emotions through his eyes alone in close-ups. His appearance creates the impression of a friendly person from whom you don't expect danger or any serious problems, so the transformation of the character throughout the film is truly striking. It can be confidently stated that the role in 'Juror #2' will become one of the best in the actor's career.

Unlike Nicholas Hoult, the other cast members did not manage to reveal their characters as vividly and engagingly. Even the talented Toni Collette lacks the room to fully realize her potential. But the other jurors suffered the most, as they are largely devoid of depth. At some point, their inner motives become clear, but this does not go beyond a superficial representation of the characters. For the most part, they only fulfill their functional role in the film, which may somewhat blur the overall impression. In the end, all the images of the secondary characters fade in favor of the drama. This is, so to speak, a necessary price for balance in the plot dynamics, which the director managed to maintain until the very end.

Clint Eastwood is undoubtedly an outstanding director, because even at 94 years old, he made a film that should not go unnoticed. That makes it all the more infuriating that Warner Bros. did not provide the desired number of copies of the film to US theaters. Given his advanced age, this is likely the master's last work, although there has been no official announcement of retirement. In any case, looking at the incredible track record of his previous works, you immediately realize that we are dealing with a living classic of serious genre cinema. And in his new film, Eastwood once again proves that he is in excellent directorial form, and 'Juror #2' is a film that, while without any special frills, is certainly capable of sparking genuine interest in watching.
