A skillfully shot thriller from another debutants – Brian Netto and Adam Schindler – with a rather intriguing premise: a young woman, under the influence of a muscle relaxant that has paralyzed her body, tries to escape from a maniac who injected her with it.
The main thing for such a plot is not to sag in terms of script. Therefore, the film's runtime barely reaches an hour and a half (which is a rarity nowadays), meaning it doesn't waste time on unnecessary dragging and lengthy dialogues. Everything they managed to come up with, they brought to the screen.
It turned out quite dynamic and fresh, although sometimes implausible, but without going to extremes. And this is also the movie with the unluckiest villain in history. He is instantly figured out by passersby, his cunning plans are thwarted by a wife who suddenly decides to celebrate a family event, he runs out of gas at the most inopportune moment, gets into an accident, etc. This slightly lightens the film's frowning atmosphere. In short, it's much more interesting to watch what ultimately happens to him, rather than the victim.
«Wolfs»
The duo of Clooney and Pitt is something you can admire on screen for a modest hour and a half. The plot here is far inferior to the creative tandem, so you can ignore it. When these two titans entertain the audience, even the worst-written script won't be a burden.
«Alien: Romulus»
The director of the new version of the legendary space franchise, Fede Álvarez (who authored the decent horror «Don't Breathe»), although he followed the classics, still oversaw the project in his own way. The other thing is that these very precepts of the classics have long turned into pop idols, so ingrained in memory, you want to see them on screen again, recognize them and rejoice, that the new flies by. Still, you need to look closely: Álvarez is more in the details here.
Nevertheless, it turned out brisk: your ears periodically get clogged either from the roar of engines, or from the screech of xenomorphs, or from the dead silence of space. The new horror does not lose creative connection with Ridley Scott's «Alien». Therefore, the film effect, button technology on the ship, mysterious android, facehuggers and xenomorphs are present in the film.
