The story of the series «Kalimba» is reminiscent of a relatively recent French film. There, with the help of professional mediators, people who committed crimes met with people who had been subjected to violent attacks by the former. The only difference is that in the Russian project, these are precisely the characters who already know each other, and they are all brought together by psychiatrist Viktor Meshchersky (Fyodor Bondarchuk).

Viktor's character is a dark horse. While we see the backstory of other characters and what specifically brought them to Viktor, Meshchersky's past is hidden, and it is impossible to fully understand his true motives. He offers each of the characters a substantial reward for participating in a social experiment.

For now, we see that Viktor monitors everything alone, although he creates the illusion for his charges of an entire team ready to help at any moment. Also, Meshchersky records all his notes on a dictaphone, even the most insignificant moments like calling a repair specialist. Everything indicates that Viktor only remembers the current day. This is another mystery that viewers have to solve.

The characters interact not only in the «victim and aggressor» paradigm. There are very touching scenes where characters confess their true feelings but cannot tell those to whom they are directed. This is already the first step towards healing, as Meshchersky mentioned. But besides awareness of their own feelings, each character also possesses a force capable of great destruction. The psychiatrist also focuses on this. Thus, perhaps viewers will be able to look at some of their life situations from a different angle.

The series «Kalimba» turned out to be dynamic, the character of each hero is well-written. It is interesting to watch each conflict. At the same time, in each situation, you can see something of your own and understand that you are not alone with your problem.
