Back to the First Season

The first season of the series 'Mutual Consent' starring Svetlana Ivanova was released on March 18, 2022, on the KION online cinema and became a hit on the platform. In the first season, the director raised the topic of the fight for fair retribution against those who committed sexualized violence but escaped prosecution. We even included this series in one of our ratings of domestic projects.

According to the plot of the new season, Marina (Glafira Tarkhanova) and Grigory (Maxim Polzikov) Venishevy are celebrating their 'porcelain wedding' – they have been together for twenty years and have three children. He is a successful businessman, founder of a rehabilitation center, whose friends include the mayor of Kotov and many other influential people gathered for the celebration of family happiness. But for some reason, on the way home, Grigory and Marina are not cheerful at all; she does not reciprocate his declaration of love. And a few minutes later, he will be lying at the entrance of his house with a kitchen knife in his stomach, and she will be sobbing into the phone, urgently calling the police.

Family Secrets

So, this time we delve into the world of one family. Here we encounter several relationship lines – between daughter and mother, grandmother and grandchildren, as well as among the children themselves. It is also worth noting the created image of the grandmother (Valentina Neimorovets). After all, she is not only a grandmother but also a mother who lost her son, yet no one pays attention to her experiences and emotions. All she can do is continue to be a cold-blooded teacher.

Generally speaking about the emotions of the characters in the first episodes, they are currently absent. All women, who are the focus of the story, are portrayed as strong, cold, and almost emotionless. Marina does not grieve for her husband; tears appear only during interrogations. Her daughter Zhenya (Maria Konchalovskaya) largely rushes to the barricades to defend her mother, while the investigator and lawyer (played by Diana Arbenina and Elena Khanga) remain in the background for now. However, regarding the investigator Anna, there are hints of complicated relationships with her mother and a subsequent understanding of Marina's case.

At first glance, the heroine gives the impression of a successful woman who has everything: she is a mother of many children, she has a wonderful husband, her family is well-off. But at second glance, she may seem weak. However, later you realize that she is very strong. Not everyone can emerge with dignity from the circumstances she had to face, while remaining true to their principles.

General Atmosphere in a Small State

So, in the first episodes, the signature atmosphere of Valeria Gai Germanika's projects is already created for the viewer. The funeral is shot stylishly, under pouring rain and to an upbeat beat. It largely resembles a fashion show, and in terms of meaning as well – we are presented with the entire kaleidoscope of characters we will spend the season with.

The mockumentary style of filming and the sense of involvement with the characters are also present, so if at some point your head starts to spin, take it as an artistic device.

So what came out at the beginning of the new season? The plot is not progressing much yet, but it is already clear that throughout the series, many closets will be opened, and not a single skeleton will turn out to be accidental.

The narrative unfolds in two parallel lines: in the present and the past. The viewer will have the opportunity to choose their own perspective and approach to the topic of violence.
