In our difficult times, we cannot do without fun, and we are helped not only by films and TV series, but also by comedians who, through their projects, shows, and performances, give viewers laughter, help them escape from life's problems, and also have a therapeutic and calming effect, showing that we are not alone in our experiences. In the new project "Comedians' Favorite Comedies", we decided to ask these people which comedy films and series help them relax and have fun themselves.

In general, I know that many comedians experience professional deformation, causing them to stop watching comedies. The same thing happened to me. A few years ago, I caught myself thinking that I couldn't watch comedies alone. I immediately start analyzing them and don't enjoy the viewing. Moreover, in company it's not like that, I watch calmly, but as soon as I sit down to watch alone, it immediately becomes difficult. However, I have a favorite series that is an exception. This is "Silicon Valley" (Editor's note — the official title is "Silicon Valley"). A show about IT geeks, actually, of Silicon Valley.

I watched all seasons, all episodes, and eagerly awaited the release of new episodes, although at first I put off watching for a long time, as it seemed to me that the project was very similar to "The Big Bang Theory". Also about geeks, about nerds. But in the end, when I finally got around to it, I realized that the series turned out to be quite different.

They differ at least in that "Silicon Valley" was shot on location, not in special pavilions, and that is already a significant difference for the TV industry. Of course, the character types may have similar traits, as in any comedy about geeks, but in the end, "Silicon Valley" pleased me even more than "The Big Bang Theory". Moreover, the series kept its finger on the pulse of the times and perfectly fit into the agenda with the then extremely popular startups.

By the way, before the premiere of the last season, there was even a conflict between "Amediateka" and the dubbing studio "Cube in Cube" over copyright infringement, because many fans watched the show with the voices of "KvK". Amedia TV threatened the guys with a lawsuit and banned them from translating new episodes, but in the end, the parties managed to reach a compromise, and the last season was released on official platforms with two audio tracks for viewers to choose from, which greatly pleased the fans.

I would like to name many things, because the selection is really huge: here are "The Dress Up Gang", and , and Nathan Fielder's projects, and the fresh "Jury Duty" (which, when humor fails, rides on the concept), but I wanted to stop at the phenomenal, in my opinion, series "Nirvanna the Band the Show". A project where two Canadian guys (Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol) asked the question: "What would happen if two truly sitcom characters found themselves in the real world?".

The show has a minimum of scripted scenes and actor roles. The guys prepare a framework of behavior and the plot of the episode in general terms, and then a series of improvisation and filming with real people begins. The realization that the people around don't know it's a series gives a completely unique perspective on everything. In one episode, the heroes rob a museum, and they actually filmed breaking a display case, grabbing an exhibit, and running away. I don't want to say a word about the plot, because it's worth watching just for the idea, because making a funny scripted series with actors is quite difficult, but making a funny improvisational series with ordinary people is real magic.

Egor Kuksa — stand-up comedian

I would gladly recommend films by the English group "Monty Python". They have excellent, absurd projects full of peculiar English humor. "Monty Python's Life of Brian", "Monty Python's The Meaning of Life", and "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" are simply masterpieces. Made in collaboration with the eccentric Terry Gilliam in the seventies and eighties, they became one of the foundations of modern comedy and absurd comedy in particular (if, of course, absurd comedy can have a foundation). I also recommend watching episodes from their show "Monty Python's Flying Circus", which can easily be found on YouTube. The sketches there are incredibly funny and original.

And from domestic comedies, I would like to recommend "Peculiarities of the National Hunt". This is a very distinctive film by Alexander Rogozhkin. The film stands out from most modern soulless commercial projects with its unhurriedness, even meditativeness in places.

Nastya Skorik — stand-up comedienne, participant of the project "Open Mic" on TNT

I choose "Friends"! This seems like the most obvious comedy series, but I still meet people who don't know the phrase "How you doin'?". I don't know what they do in the evenings when they're sad. Even the opening of this series can cure my blues. The jokes are still funny, and the project has become a textbook for sitcoms, analyzed in educational screenwriting literature.

I watched this show since childhood with my parents. We had a channel that aired the series in a loop for about ten years. Because of it, by the way, I was late for school for the second shift. Since then, whenever I need something light and warm, I turn on "Friends", so I've experienced Rachel's development and the development of Chandler and Monica's relationship a couple of hundred times for sure! I feel like they are really my friends. My personal recommendation is Season 3, Episode 2 "The One Where No One's Ready". This is a classic comedy of situations with great jokes. In short, watch (or rewatch), don't read!

Lev Marsel — stand-up comedian

If we talk about comedies, I really like the series "Crashing" with Pete Holmes. This is a fun, ironic, and underrated show about the modern stand-up industry. According to the plot, the main character caught his wife cheating and decided to start life "with a clean slate" in a new city, immersing himself headlong into the world of stand-up comedy.

The project features many industry stars, and in spirit it is very close to another of my favorite series — "Louie" with the legendary Louis C.K. — showing the life of a comedian after a divorce, where he raises two daughters, performs on stage, and tries to go on dates with other women. Both shows include elements of stand-up, and I would recommend them not only to ordinary viewers but also to all comedians.
