The directorial debut of actress Daria Moroz immediately intrigued with a bright project — the series "Sex. Before and After". Daria herself does not hide that she loves style, beauty, and talking about spicy topics in her work. We attended the special premiere of the project and are ready to examine what the series' characters discuss before and after intimacy, how they relate to it, and what came of it.

There are 14 episodes in the season, which can be watched out of order because each is a novella with its own story and characters. They are all very different in character, yet sincere and true to life. Before and after sex — there is a lot of humor, including black humor, and the characters themselves are not afraid to be cheeky at times and very vulnerable at others. This is very disarming and sets a playful tone — a kind of flirtation between the series and its viewer.

The sex itself almost always remains off-screen, and that's actually a good thing. Beautifully and naturally filming sex scenes is still a difficult task for Russian cinema, which is tackled with varying success. And leaving room for the viewer's imagination is not a bad idea at all.

As for feelings, conversations, barbs, and confusion — that's where serious passions unfold, but it all looks so natural that it's impossible not to empathize with each character.

It is worth noting that the actors are perfectly cast, each and every one of them is exactly in their place. Grigory Kalinin unexpectedly plays a bold and charismatic comedian, Anna Snatkina plays a beauty with character and a distinctive feature — her character wears a prosthesis. Daria Moroz herself is the head of an establishment with the telling name "Ice," where all the relationship clarifications and frank conversations take place. Under her command are beautiful waitresses and handsome waiters who are not averse to eavesdropping on other people's interesting stories.

And there truly is style and beauty in all of this, as well as depth, which is often sorely lacking. And what is missing in "Sex. Before and After"? Conversations about who likes and dislikes what in sex, who agrees to what, and the culture of consent in general. Here it is also left out and seems to be implied, but it would be nice to show how it can actually be done — safely, with acceptance and care for each other. There is no violence here, of course, but there is so much of it in other projects and in life that one already wishes sexual education would reach us as well.

Nevertheless, other equally important issues are raised — that the truth should still be told, that you can negotiate everything and still pleasantly surprise each other, that you can change your perspective on some things, and then something very important will open up.
