Good evening, dear listeners! "Only Murders in the Building" is back with a new season of investigations and immediately treats us to two episodes. In this issue, you can expect a killer rattle, a death rattle, the return of the podcast, and much more!

Where Have You Been All This Time?
A love of theater often begins in early childhood. This is exactly what happened with Loretta Durkin (Meryl Streep), who, after dedicating her entire life to achieving her dream, only heard the magical words "Where have you been all this time?" in her twilight years from our old acquaintance on the "Only Murders in the Building" podcast, theater director Oliver Putnam (Martin Short).
Oliver, on the other hand, gets a chance to return to the stage with a detective play called "Death Rattle," the lead role of which is to be played by star actor Ben Glenroy ( Paul Rudd ).
A notable thing about the play: the murder weapon is a baby rattle, and the only witness is an infant.
Familiar and Unfamiliar Faces
Viewers are also introduced to several key players in the new season: the producer duo DeMayo, mother Donna (Linda Emond) and son Cliff (Wesley Taylor), who share a very un-childlike love; supporting actors Kimber (Ashley Park) and Ty (Gerald Caesar); Ben's brother and also manager, Dickie (Jeremy Shamos); and Ben's documentary filmmaker, Tobert (Jesse Williams).
Old acquaintances are also present here: Oliver invited his old friend and participant in "Only Murders in the Building," Charles-Hayden Savage (Steve Martin), for a role, hired his neighbor Howard (Michael Cyril Creighton) as an assistant, and another neighbor, Jonathan (Jason Veasey), Howard's beloved, as Ben's understudy. The third and youngest podcaster, Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez), is also present at the first read-through and clearly stands in awe of Ben.
Speaking of the read-through, an unpleasant (but extremely funny) incident happens immediately, one that many professional actors are familiar with in one way or another: Loretta wants so badly to find her voice that she clearly overdoes it in trying to tie her character, a nanny, to a specific geographical location using inappropriate accents. This clearly stresses out Ben, for whom this performance will be his Broadway debut.
"Only Murders in the Building" Potentially Back in Business?
But let's return to the final scene of the previous season, which serves as the setup for the third one, namely the death of Ben Glenroy right on stage during the premiere of "Death Rattle." All three main characters react to it differently: for Charles, it means a partial lifting of responsibility and, to some extent, relief; Oliver panics about the fate of the play and his career; and Mabel quietly hopes that this death will help her restart the podcast. Because it's made clear to us how much she misses her elderly and very busy friends.
At the party (which was supposed to be a post-premiere party but turned into a memorial gathering), Loretta and Oliver play a piece of the song "The Sweetest Sounds" together on the piano—the very song that made Loretta fall in love with theater in the first place. Here we also see that Oliver and Loretta clearly have romantic feelings for each other, which they haven't acted on due to professional ethics. But now that the play is over, can they stop holding back?
Risen from the Dead
The party is interrupted like a bolt from the blue by a resurrected Ben, who is by no means dead. So the ending of the previous season was just a tease, and we, dear listeners, are in for an investigation of a completely different murder. Right?
Before hastily leaving, Ben makes an extremely uncharacteristic attack on Loretta, calling her a snake. Could this be related to a conflict stemming from their collaboration, or is something far more sinister hidden here?
Oliver, Charles, and Mabel are getting together for dinner when Mabel informs them that she's moving out of her aunt's apartment in two weeks, which explains her sadness about the lack of communication with her podcaster friends.
But just as the trio starts discussing that Ben's death in any case occurred outside the Arconia residential complex, so it couldn't be the subject of the next season of the "Only Murders in the Building" podcast, the body of the now definitively deceased Ben Glenroy literally falls on their heads, crashing through the elevator roof.
From the author: it's too early to make predictions about the killer, but the focus on Meryl Streep is the right focus. A special bonus: Hulu plans to treat us to high-quality clips from the episodes, which we'll share with you (even if only in English).
