Apple's streaming service has launched the series 'Drops of God', which from its first episode literally speaks with every element saying, 'It's going to be interesting!'

Platform Apple TV+ has teamed up with France Television and Hulu Japan to adapt the Japanese manga by Tadashi Agi 'Drops of God' about wine and guilt.

In the first episode titled 'Father,' viewers are introduced to two main characters from different countries and cultures who meet to read what must be the strangest will in the world.

A Difficult Childhood

The first central figure is writer Camille Léger (Fleur Geffrier), living in Paris. Importantly, she hasn't spoken to her father, Alexandre, for 11 (!) years, but one fine night he calls her out of the blue. Alexandre is dying and has little time left, so he wants Camille to come to Tokyo to see him before it's too late.

Camille hesitates, feeling negative towards him after all these years. Something serious clearly happened between them, but viewers are shown only one flashback scene to confirm these suspicions. Twenty years ago, Camille is sitting at a table blindfolded for a... tasting! Her father quite aggressively and persistently trains her palate so that the girl can even identify moss without error.

In the present, Camille tells her mother, Marianne, that she is going to Tokyo for answers. Alexandre has provided her with transport and a ticket on a private jet to make the trip easier and faster.

Who Is Issei Tomine?

While Camille is flying to Tokyo, we are introduced to the second main character of the series 'Drops of God,' the Japanese wine expert Issei Tomine (Tomohisa Yamashita). He is meeting a woman named Sayaka in a luxurious bar. Their parents set them up on a date, but neither is particularly interested in the other. Sayaka even calls Issei a bloodhound when he talks about his profession.

Issei is informed that his winemaking teacher, Mr. Léger, has just died. He tells his parents about the failed date and the death of his mentor. Issei's mother does not support her son's passion for wine and treats the visibly grieving young man harshly.

When Camille lands in Tokyo, she is met by Alexandre's friend Luca, who delivers the news of her father's death. They drive to Alexandre's house, stopping for lunch at Luca's restaurant along the way. It emerges here that Camille does not drink alcohol (we had already seen a scene earlier where the girl refused a drink), which surprises Luca.

He calls Alexandre a genius and then updates the girl's plans: they will visit a lawyer to discuss the will, and then go to the funeral and cremation.

Camille spends the night in her father's house, and the next day meets Alexandre's lawyer, François Tallon, and then Issei, her father's protégé. François says that Issei was Alexandre's student and his 'spiritual' son.

What Are the Terms of Alexandre's Will?

The will is divided into two parts:

• Alexandre's house in Tokyo, worth $7 million;
• a wine collection valued at $148 million.

All property will go to either Camille or Issei. To claim the inheritance, they will have to compete against each other in a three-stage tasting.

In the first test, they are each given a glass of wine. François states they have a month to figure out the drink's details, grape variety, and other important aspects. Camille refuses to participate, thinking it's some kind of joke, but Issei sniffs and then drinks the wine.

Camille is forced to drink it, otherwise she must renounce the inheritance. When the girl drinks, she gets a nosebleed and throws the glass to the floor. The wine causes her severe discomfort, and she leaves the building in confusion.

Camille feels humiliated and deceived by her deceased father. Luca defends Alexandre, saying her father did not know she doesn't drink alcohol. Afterwards, they head to Alexandre's funeral.

The guests say goodbye to Alexandre, and then he is cremated. Luca shows Camille her father's wine collection, which he calls a temple. All the bottles have funny or personally meaningful names for Alexandre. There's even one labeled 'drink with Camille when she turns 18' – this cannot help but move the girl.

How Does the First Episode of 'Drops of God' End?

Before leaving, Luca shows Camille a recording from her father, which he made while in the hospital. He realizes he was a terrible parent but hopes this competition will help Camille get to know him better. Alexandre wants his daughter to train with a man named Philippe to hone her taste and smell in preparation for the unusual battle.

In the video, Alexandre talks about the vineyard where they spent their vacations. Then we see a young Camille enjoying the blind tests from her youth. She actually loved spending time with her father in such activities. Something tragic separated these two, but we don't yet learn the exact reasons. We are left with this anticipation at the end of the debut episode.
