Domestic filmmakers have recently been turning to the theme of the supernatural quite often. One striking example is the series '13 Clinical'. We'll tell you about the new hit starring Danila Kozlovsky, and also recall other projects where characters received paranormal services.

'13 Clinical' (2022)

13 Clinical is a special medical facility where doctors fight for the lives of people possessed by entities with their own will. They don't heal diseases in the usual sense here, but teach how to coexist and cope with inner demons.

Kirill and his colleagues have to untangle the complex and intricate relationships between people and mysterious beings to learn to distinguish good from evil. Each episode is the story of a new patient and another battle of the medics against mysterious forces.

We enter the walls of the institution together with Kirill (Danila Kozlovsky), a young and successful doctor making progress in his work. But there's a catch: Kirill has an incurable disease, and the hero is already preparing for the end. But fate leads him to 13 Clinical. This turns out to be his last chance, but with one condition – if he leaves the hospital walls, the disease will return. And so begins our hero's journey into a completely new kind of medicine. Helping him figure it out are nurse Anya (Paulina Andreeva) and head physician Irina (Viktoriya Isakova).

All diseases are categorized according to a special classification, operations are performed using amulets and rituals, and sometimes Lucifer himself might drop by. The words 'devil', 'hell', and 'heaven' are not used in conversations. Everything has its own code. By the way, for this, the main characters constantly head to the library, filled with books and catalogs. These scenes are filled with warmth and coziness; they could even be called homey.

At first, Kirill doesn't quite believe what's happening, he's ironic, then tries to understand, and later applies his knowledge and brings something new to the world of this hospital. Of course, over time he falls in love and changes emotionally. It's nice, by the way, to see Danila Kozlovsky in this role, so relaxed, cheerful, and playful.

'The Penultimate Instance' (2022)

In 2020, viewers were introduced to the series 'The Penultimate Instance', which showed that bureaucracy has even reached the heavenly office.

Maxim (Pavel Priluchny) and Valentina (Irina Rozanova) work in the Department of Soul Distribution – 24 hours before a person's death, they must determine where they will go: to hell or heaven.

The first season is a series of stories about ordinary people who fell in love, made mistakes, in short – lived like any other mortals, and the main characters have to decide their fates. In some cases, these are amusing sketches, and in others, touching ones. Added to this is the structure of the Department, the work of the local Q like in Bond – Ivan Petrovich Kulibin. But the second season fell short. The writers added demons, delved more into the personal squabbles of the characters, and all of Priluchny's acting somehow vanished. Or, on the contrary, it suddenly appeared for the first season, and then he returned to his usual persona.

'Heavenly Court' (2011, 2014)

In fact, ideas about adding mysticism to everyday routine appeared in domestic cinema a long time ago. In 2011, the project 'Heavenly Court' about two lawyers was first released. But these are not ordinary lawyers. They handle cases in the Heavenly Court, deciding the fate of a human soul. Only here there is no heaven or hell; these terms are not used – it's the sector of reflection or the sector of rest.

All the names of the characters here are somehow connected to mythology or well-known mystical figures. Various beliefs are present, for example, that a soul can fly in the form of a bird, which is used as a means of communication.

The second season tells about the court being inspected by the Supreme Inquisition, because how could it be otherwise? An inspection befalls everyone sometimes.

At the center of the series is the duo of prosecutor Andrei (Konstantin Khabensky) and lawyer Veniamin (Mikhail Porechenkov), two friends who are always on opposite sides but ready to help each other.

Add to the bright actors unusual filming locations, like the Plague Fort or the A. L. Stieglitz Academy, and you get a light and witty project about life and death, sometimes making you think about your own present and future.
