Beautiful sunny weather, a luxurious cruise yacht, attentive staff, and wealthy passengers — it seemed nothing foreshadowed trouble. But happiness cannot last forever, and the measured enjoyment of sunbathing and exquisite dishes is abruptly interrupted by a sudden event that throws several morally and physically degraded homo sapiens onto a deserted island. And this is only the beginning of a crazy adventure.

Ruben Östlund does not lose his grip and remains true to himself, vividly and wittily exposing the most ingrained and elite vices of society. His scathing social satire once again shows how the environment dictates to us how to live and treat others, what ideas to follow and what ideals to hate. The director makes no distinctions based on nationality, race, skin color, or especially the size of one's wallet. He is confident that all people are equally equal before sin. And to not be unfounded, the director consistently proves this, sparing neither the moral compass of the audience nor their stomachs aching from laughter.

Actually, it is very difficult to try to describe the zest and inventiveness of the new film by the Swedish director, who twice won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival (for The Square in 2017 and Triangle of Sadness — winner of Cannes 2022), without revealing at least one spoiler. And it's not that it will be less interesting to watch — not at all, there aren't many plot twists in the film (and they aren't particularly unexpected). It's about the atmosphere of the movie, overflowing with grotesque, politically incorrect caricature, a sum of clichés turned up to the maximum. If we mention even one of these moments, then later when you watch it, it won't be as funny. And Triangle of Sadness is perhaps the most comedic (and anecdotal) film of 2022, which is best approached with an innocent mind!

Leo Tolstoy wrote that all happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way. This same formula of thought can be used to describe Triangle of Sadness, and it would sound something like this: all people are essentially equally sinful, but rich people can sin in a special way and on a grand scale.

And thanks to the efforts of bright talented actors, including Woody Harrelson, who dreamed of working with Östlund, Charlbi Dean Kriek and Harris Dickinson, we now know in full color what facets of vice and beginnings of virtue can lurk in the depths of the souls of luxury class people and beyond. And what happens if they are left to stew on an island.

So, rather, jump on board the cruise liner, whose captain has become Ruben Östlund. Here you are guaranteed two and a half hours of uncontrollable laughter.
