Streaming platforms like Netflix, HBO Max, Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime Video have proven over the past couple of years that they can compete on equal footing with big theatrical premieres for audience attention. We've compiled our ranking of the most anticipated movies that will entertain us this summer without making us leave home: from a new action movie starring Chris Hemsworth to an indie melodrama with Dakota Johnson. Hustle
Premiere Date: June 8

It's no secret that Adam Sandler loves basketball. Not too long ago, he shone in the Safdie brothers' film 'Uncut Gems', directly related to this sport. And in the upcoming film 'Hustle', which Sandler is co-producing with basketball legend LeBron James, he plays Stanley Sugarman, a scout who discovers a potential NBA star abroad (played, by the way, by current player Juancho Hernangomez). Sandler will be joined on screen by Queen Latifah, Ben Foster, Robert Duvall and prominent NBA representatives Anthony Edwards and Trae Young. We're looking forward to a rare example of quality sports cinema, as Adam Sandler's real passion here will be just what's needed.

Spiderhead
Premiere Date: June 17
Platform: Netflix
Chris Hemsworth and Netflix continue their active collaboration after the commercially successful blockbuster . This time they will try to surprise viewers in the dystopian genre, basing the film on George Saunders' story 'Escape from Spiderhead' about a near future where prisoners are tested with drugs that alter their perception of reality.
'Tyler Rake: Extraction' is a new brutal Netflix blockbuster from the Russo brothers that may seem stupid and cruel, but certainly not boring.
Open materialResponsible for the adaptation of the text are Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (authors of 'Deadpool'), and the director is Joseph Kosinski ('Tron: Legacy', 'Oblivion'). Hemsworth plays a scientist who conducts the controversial experiments, while one of the prisoners is portrayed on screen by Miles Teller.

Cha-Cha Real Smooth
Premiere Date: June 17
Platform: Apple TV+
After college, a guy named Andrew, played by the film's director Cooper Raiff, gets a job at a diner while his girlfriend leaves for distant Barcelona. His life changes when, after a successful performance at a local teenager's bar mitzvah, Andrew is invited to host similar events. At one of them, he meets a young mother Domino (Dakota Johnson), who asks him to become a nanny for her daughter with autism spectrum disorder.
The premiere of 'Cha-Cha Real Smooth' took place earlier this year at the Sundance Independent Film Festival, where the film received positive press. After the screening at the mecca of indie cinema, streaming service Apple TV+, which has recently earned the status of the first online cinema to win the main 'Oscar', acquired the rights to the film for $15 million.

Shotgun Wedding
Premiere Date: June 29
Platform: Amazon Prime Video
'Shotgun Wedding' is a romantic comedy in which the characters played by Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel are preparing for their wedding and all the associated fuss. But all the hardships take a back seat when the wedding guests are taken hostage by ruthless criminals.
On its way to viewers, the film faced incredible difficulties: first, it lost its main star Ryan Reynolds, then the creators miscalculated with the replacement — Armie Hammer, who was brought onto the project, was 'canceled'. And only the third candidate proved capable of fully starring in 'Shotgun Wedding'. We hope that all these upheavals will not affect the quality of the final product, which could turn out to be a dashing and romantic action comedy.
The Princess
Premiere Date: July 1
Platform: Hulu
Even before its release, 'The Princess' was dubbed a mix of 'Tangled' and 'The Raid'. An interesting blend, don't you think? The film is directed by Le-Van Kiet, who has the solid action movie 'Fury' to his name, which featured Eastern martial arts and graphic ultra-violence.
The Princess, played by Joey King ('The Act', 'Ramona and Beezus'), is locked in a tower against her will after she refuses to marry a cruel tyrant. As you might guess, that's a bad decision for those who make it. A great opportunity to see a pretty and ruthless girl carve her path to emancipation with a bloody R rating.
The Sea Beast
Premiere Date: July 8
Platform: Netflix
In an attempt to compete with Pixar and Dreamworks, Netflix this summer will offer viewers the family adventure animated film 'The Sea Beast'. At the center of the story is young Maisie, who stows away on the ship of a legendary monster hunter and finally encounters the adventures she's always dreamed of.
Voice actors in the project include Karl Urban, Jared Harris, Dan Stevens and Kathy Burke. The film is directed by Oscar-winning Chris Williams ('Big Hero 6', 'Moana'). Viewers can expect beautiful visuals, humor for all ages, and a bestiary of sea monsters: from adorably cute to the most fearsome creatures.

The Gray Man
Premiere Date: July 13
Platform: Netflix
Without any exaggeration, 'The Gray Man' is the main summer premiere on Netflix. And it's also the most expensive project in the history of streaming. In the director's chairs are the Russo brothers, the script, based on the novel of the same name by Mark Greaney, is by the authors of 'Infinity War' and 'Avengers: Endgame' Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, and on screen are Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jessica Henwick and Regé-Jean Page.
In the plot, Gosling's character, a CIA secret agent, enters a deadly pursuit of a former colleague (Evans), a highly unpredictable guy, and also tries to uncover a sinister secret organization. A must-see, to say the least.
Luck
Premiere Date: August 5
Platform: Apple TV+
In August, we'll see 'Luck', the debut animated film from Skydance Animation, headed by none other than former Pixar chief John Lasseter.
The animated film tells the story of Sam, the unluckiest girl in the world, who learns that somewhere out there is the Land of Luck. Hoping to change her life, she sets out to find this place accompanied by amazing magical creatures. For example, among them is a cat voiced by Simon Pegg.

Day Shift
Premiere Date: August 12
Platform: Netflix
There's a new addition to the ranks of vampire hunters! In the new Netflix project, Jamie Foxx plays a pool cleaner who thus covers up his true occupation — hunting bloodsuckers. The actor is joined by Dave Franco, Snoop Dogg and Scott Adkins.
Expect the project to be more of a comedy in the vein of 'What We Do in the Shadows' rather than a new 'Blade'. But how interesting and funny it will be is hard to say, because the director is debutant J.J. Perry. We'll see what he comes up with in August.
Me Time
Premiere Date: August 26
Platform: Netflix
As part of the deal between Netflix and Kevin Hart's production company HartBeat, a new comedy starring Hart himself and Mark Wahlberg will be released this summer. The plot revolves around Sonny, a stay-at-home dad who finally gets some time to himself when his wife leaves on a trip with the kids. Sonny decides to spend this time with his best friend. Then strange and funny events ensue, including the kidnapping of a turtle in a tracksuit!
