Let's remember and discuss what we saw in the ninth (and best) episode of the season of 'Dexter: New Blood'.
Dexter opened up to his son, Kurt is on the run, and Angela continues to find parallels between the Bay Harbor Butcher and what's happening in her town. All these circumstances served as a perfect foundation for the ninth and best episode of the season. After it, we can confidently say that the comeback of the iconic hero was a success. Whatever the finale may be.

Dark Passenger and the Harry Code
After Dex told his son that he perfectly understands him and his craving for cruelty, he decided to tell him how he copes with it. He told him about the Dark Passenger and the code that dictates never to get caught and only to go after hardened criminals whose activities have verifiable evidence.
To illustrate his method, Dexter tells about one of his first victims — a clown maniac who killed children. He shares the details of methodically tracking the killer and finding evidence (in this case, photos of dead children). But the most important detail, on the advice of his sister Debra's ghost, he omits — in his story, Dex doesn't kill, but only scares the maniacs with the very confirmation of their deeds. In response, Harrison called him the Batman of the maniac world. Why not, indeed?
In this prologue, we see Dexter as if for the first time. At work. Cold-blooded and self-confident. Knowing no doubts and deftly dealing with his victims. The authors managed to make a perfect nod to the hero's fans and show him as he conquered millions of viewers 16 years ago.
Harrison felt relieved when he got to know his father better and realized that he is not alone. Therefore, the connection between them became easier and more understandable. And when Dex gave him a rifle to 'blend in,' the boy was completely won over.
Family Celebration with an Unexpected Guest
Dressed in funny sweaters, Dexter and Harrison went to celebrate Christmas at Angela and Audrey's. They all had fun and exchanged gifts until this family idyll was interrupted by an unexpected guest — Kurt.
Earlier, Dex told his son that he had nothing to fear, because after being exposed, the maniac was unlikely to stay in town. But he was wrong. Citing urgent matters, the men hastily retreated. Of course, they went in search of Kurt, or rather, evidence of his guilt. Interestingly, they were helped in this by the quadcopter previously given by the old man. Near the maniac's hunting lodge, they discovered a suspicious place with a ventilation system. Dexter suggested waiting until nightfall before going there to avoid being seen. During this tracking, Harrison confessed to his father that he had indeed deliberately cut his classmate, which Dex had known for a long time.
The Ketamine Trail
Angela continued her investigation of the Bay Harbor Butcher case. First, she googled that the victims (or rather, what was left of them) had traces of injection marks on their necks. Second, she listened to a podcast by her friend Molly, who questioned whether the real killer was Sergeant Doakes. Third, she went to the local supplier of animal medications. It is in this field that the infamous ketamine is most often used. And how surprised the girl was when she learned that Jim-Dexter had purchased this substance for his livestock.
If the ketamine trail led Angela in the right direction, Molly's search was less successful. As it turned out, the podcaster had already checked out of the hotel. Meanwhile, Angela, checking the safe in the room, found something without which Molly would never have left — a voice recorder. What conclusions will this lead the policewoman to? We'll find out in the final episode. Perhaps she will decide that Dexter killed the podcaster who was on his trail. That possibility exists and is quite high.
Molly's Real Fate and the Season's Murder
While Dexter and Harrison went in search of evidence against Kurt, the old man himself decided to burn down his enemy's house, hoping to catch him inside. Instead, he receives a signal from his hideout, deliberately sent to him by father and son.
Inside the secret room, Dex discovers Kurt's mummified victims. He had arranged everything like a wax museum. And among the murdered girls is Molly Park, who symbolically became the maniac's victim.
At this moment, a conversation takes place between Harrison and Dexter, during which the father confesses to his son that he actually did not let the maniacs go, but killed them (including Trinity). To which the teenager says that Kurt must die too.
And Kurt himself, emotional from being outsmarted and exposed, heads to the hideout, i.e., straight into Dex's trap. Finding himself on the table, like hundreds of other serial killers before him, Kurt tries to justify himself, to pressure his captor. But it's all in vain. Even the words that Dexter killed his son Matt have no effect on Harrison, who watches with not a little pleasure as his father sends the old man to the next world.
But despite all the similarities between father and son and how Harrison watched Kurt's murder without hesitation, something in him is not entirely ready to accept his inner nature, his dark passenger. His mind, it seems, is not yet clouded enough to allow the darkness to fully take him over. And perhaps this will prove to be a turning point in Dexter's story. Or the note Angela receives at the end of the episode, which says that Jim killed Matt Caldwell, with the very titanium bolt from his body attached as proof.
In the ninth episode, the creators of the show 'Dexter: New Blood' managed to do a lot. And once again overwhelm the viewer with a wave of nostalgia, and once again emphasize what made the series so beloved by many in its time (vivid characters and engaging interactions between them), and bring the hero to the final point. This time, truly final and worthy of such an extraordinary character as Dexter.
