Let's remember and discuss what we saw in the seventh episode of the season of 'Dexter: New Blood'.
In the previous episode, the creators revealed almost all their cards, both to the viewers and to the characters themselves. This meant that we were in for some intense developments. And the expectations were justified. Though we're still a ways off from the climax.

On the Hook
After finding the body of her old friend in a local mine, Angela called on Dexter for help as a forensic expert. And oh, how long it's been since we've seen him in action! A couple of keen observations, and our main character uncovers a clue that could pin Kurt down — traces of DNA on the victim's teeth. After all the events of the previous episode, Angela is convinced that the benefactor is the killer. So she wants to run the comparison only with his DNA.
Since Kurt was on the hook (the DNA story is confirmed a bit later), Dexter decides to leave the case to the police rather than kill him, despite Debra's urging. The latter is a rather controversial script decision, because earlier his sister advocated for a quiet and measured life, and now she's literally begging Dex to let his nature out again. Although, perhaps, they wanted to emphasize that the balance he had found in his life would soon crumble.
Kurt, however, turns out to be much more complex than Dexter expected:
- First, he manages to get rid of the charge with the found DNA. The old man tells Angela and the prosecutor a 'convincing' story about how it wasn't him, but his father, who committed the crime;
- Second, he almost explicitly tells Dex that he knows about Matt. To do this, he sends him a titanium bolt through Harrison. Why this particular detail? In a private conversation, for which Dexter had to break into the police station, he says that titanium doesn't melt. As we recall, earlier the main character burned Matt's body, unaware of the metal inserts in his body;
- Third... but more on that later.
Harrison's Dark Passenger
This episode featured a landmark conversation between Dexter and his son. Harrison finally decided to open up a bit to his father. He admits that after listening to Molly's podcast about the Trinity Killer, he remembered how the maniac killed his mother. This scene is presented through an effective flashback featuring the most charismatic and dangerous of Dexter's rivals, played by John Lithgow. The cameos in this season are handled magnificently. Batista, now Trinity... bravo to the creators!
But there's no real dialogue between Dex and Harrison. The boy, as usual, flared up and ran away, and the main character still can't find the key to him. Except that he's thinking that one day he'll have to tell him the truth about himself.
The Truth About Dexter
There is, however, a chance that Angela and Molly will learn the whole truth about him sooner than Harrison. The fact is that the policewoman tells the podcaster about Dexter's help with her friend's body and that he shared events with Kurt with her. But his version absolutely does not match Molly's version. For example, about Dexter overhearing their conversation with the 'potential' killer. The girl quickly realizes that he most likely recorded their conversation on his smartphone. This in itself looks suspicious. And then there's the story of the name change and staged death... In short, Dex will very soon need to come up with a convincing story about everything that has happened recently.
Who's the Predator Now?
Let's get back to Kurt. After he was released, which, of course, the main character also found out about, he took a decisive step. Much more decisive than Dexter's desire to protect his son by killing Kurt — he sends an accomplice to grab Dex. And he succeeds. But, by the laws of the genre, the episode ends on this very cliffhanger.
It turns out that Dexter, who previously thought he had everything under control, suddenly found himself in the role of the victim. And now it's Kurt's move. What will he decide to do with the prisoner? Just kill him? Or maybe tell Harrison about him, showing the true face of his father? We'll find out very soon.
