The search continues
The police continue actively searching for Matt Caldwell, who, as we know, became Dexter's first victim in a good decade. And then we discover that in the forest where the guy fell into the protagonist's hands, there was a video recording. But… only from a thermal camera. Its footage confirmed that while killing the deer, someone else was with Matt. Thus, the missing person case instantly turns into a criminal investigation. Nevertheless, Matt is still being blamed for poaching.
A blood specialist is brought to the 'crime scene.' Yes, reminding us of Dexter's past, where he helped investigate the most complex murders. The invited specialist turns out not to be a dilettante — he quickly identifies blood from both an animal and a human.
Police Chief Angela orders a DNA test to confirm that the discovered blood indeed belongs to Matt. And after receiving a positive result, she decides to involve not only volunteers but also tracking dogs in the search. And as you understand, this is a direct threat to Dexter. And as you know, at such moments, Dex switches into the mode of the most cunning criminal on earth. However, this time it's enough for him to confuse the tracks using Matt's clothes, which he still has stored.
School affairs
To place Harrison in a specific class, he is offered to take a test. Based on the results, Dexter is called to the school — teachers believe his son used a smartphone to cheat on the exam. Dex doesn't side with Harrison, so the guy is forced to retake the test. And this time he scores an even higher score. This unequivocally hints at the boy's extraordinary intelligence. As if we had any doubts!
Another murder
A missing girl named Lily gets a chance to escape in this episode — the door of her 'cage' suddenly opens, and she tries to flee. However, a masked killer prevents this by pulling the trigger of his sniper rifle. Who the maniac is remains unknown for now. But confidence that it's Kurt, Matt's father, is growing weaker. He seems too preoccupied with searching for his son, and the brutality with which Lily was killed doesn't quite fit the old man's image. Still, let's not rule out this theory.
Where to hide the remains?
Dexter's main problem is the inability to hide Matt's remains. The ground is too frozen to bury them. The lake is too shallow, and it's full of fishermen. But the ghost of Debora, Dex's sister, suggests an option that creates the bloodiest and most amusing moment of the episode — using a wood chipper.
In the end, the protagonist decides to try hiding the remains in an old mine. It's abandoned, full of tangled tunnels — in short, everything he needs. But alas — the mine turns out not to be so abandoned, because a bear is sleeping in it, clearly displeased by uninvited guests.
Family
During dinner with Angela, Audrey, and Harrison, Dexter articulates the thought that he doesn't want to lose his new family. He is worried that his impulsive murder nearly cost him his quiet, modest happiness. Dex apologizes to his son for the school test incident and admits he was wrong. Harrison says a simple: 'Thanks, Dad.' And Dexter calls this his new favorite phrase.
What was that?
At the very end of the episode, there was a wildly strange scene, a clear cliffhanger: Dexter meets a drunk Kurt, who joyfully announces that he spoke with Matt via FaceTime. We understand he's lying, but why? We'll find out in a week!
